Were you in Toronto?

No, i've never been to America, it was somewhere in England.

Do you know what country Toronto is in?
<Bart doing a newscast on a kids news show>
Bart: Joe Banks, 82 years young, has come to this pond everyday for the past 17 years to feed the ducks. But last month Joe made a discovery: the ducks were gone. Some say the ducks went to Canada, others say Toronto. And some people think Joe used to sit down there near those ducks. But it could be that there's just no room, in this modern world, for an old man and his ducks.
Also:

Homer Simpson: Books are useless! I only ever read one book, "To Kill A Mockingbird" and it gave me absolutely no insight on how to kill mockingbirds! Sure it taught me not to judge a man by the colour of his skin... but what good does *that* do me?

Canada. Located on the continent of North America...

Who says "I've never been to the Americas!" Who? Ever?

Also, lumping Canada into "America" is pretty rough, since people commonly refer to the United States as "America".

edit: you can't have it both way, rest of the world

I think this is what generally turns the general public away from homosexuals. Most people don't want to picture/hear about it, but are otherwise totally ok with it.

I have a gay uncle, he is rather successful. I don't mind hearing him gab about how hot some guy is, or how he went on a date, etc. But I would definitely not like to listen to him talk about what happened that night

This is weird to me in that I don't have this filter at all. I can easily discuss both homosexual and heterosexual sex without being put off at all on either side.
First of all...

Clubs are an abomination and should all be burned to the ground are not a fun place to go.
Of course, this is just an opinion...I guess... >.>

...when they play the latest rap song...I see a lot of white chicks get on the floor and start getting it!

I probably would not find these types of girl attractive then. I mean this only personality-wise; I'm fairly sure I could never date a girl who ENJOYED listening to rap. I would rant about this deeper but:

A) There wouldn't be a point.
B) I would be criticized for it.

post=110708
Humans should be able to date whoever they want regardless of their skin color.

I do whole-heartedly agree here.

post=110708
There are many parents that do not like their children dating anybody outside of their race and I find this very foolish.

I would also find this foolish, but I would also understand the parent's point of view.

America is really changing for the better, its starting to see people as just people. It's starting to meld the line between black and white.

I think the world, let alone America, is on a downhill slope...but, not because of this ^^^

But I guess that's irrelevant. Anyway, I don't have a problem with legitimate interracial relationships.

Also, "Ghetto people" (not just black people) is the term that encompasses the group(s) of people I unfathomably despise...

I would argue that discriminating based on musical taste is just about as bad as discriminating based on colour. Not that I'm pointing fingers or trying to start an argument, I just see no point in it. Rap appeals to some people while classical appeals to others. Nobody's saying you'd be forced to listen to rap, let alone like it, by dating someone who enjoys it.

this is what middle class white suburbanites really believe

Chinese and Black couples...lol

Almost. But everyone has certain things in their life that they absolutely despise. Rap and the promotion of it is one of mine.

I understand what you're saying, Tardis, I really do.
But, you can't say that musical tastes don't have an effect on the personality of the person, even if it's just a little.

Would I date a date a girl who liked rap? It's always possible.

However, not only would I tell them to "turn that shit off" if I ever heard it playing, but there's no way that her personality, opinions, and life are not affected by the music she listens to. I say this because there are many people in the world (me included) that are greatly emotionally affected by the music they listen to.

I guess this all just sounds like ignorance to you, but I'll wrap this up with one final statement.

Rap is not music; it is rhythmic talking. It is irritating noise and it is one of the utmost unpleasant things I've ever encountered.
As a black guy I've heard all this song and dance before, so I'm going to go out on a limb and just throw this out there and assume that Mitsuhide is flagrantly offended by/dislikes conventional American 'black' culture.

None of that post sounded like ignorance until your final statement.
Rap is music in just the same way didgeridoo drones are music. A great deal of time and effort goes into this "irritating noise" as you call it. I would assume you think the same of metal? That's a whole different discussion, mind.

Note that music can be defined not only as 1. The art of arranging sounds in time so as to produce a continuous, unified, and evocative composition, as through melody, harmony, rhythm, and timbre. but also:
2. Vocal or instrumental sounds possessing a degree of melody, harmony, or rhythm.

Also, please be sure you're not mixing up Rap and Hip-Hop, as they're two very different genres. T-Pain is hip-hop, Nas is rap.

In closing, try that on for size. A great deal of skill, talent, knowlege, and effort went into composing this song. Not only does it seamlessly transition between five languages throughout the song, it has a powerful message of acceptance and transcending perceptions.

Yup. I won't deny that.
I'm not offended by it mind you, I just dislike it.

Also, Tardis, despite my previous statement, I won't deny that rap/hip hop is accepted as and truthfully is music. Simply, that's my way of expressing my great displeasure in it.

I take this all back. I've just decided that I don't like black singers in music.

See now this puts me in a tight spot because as a black guy I don't know if I should say anything because it'll obviously be biased, but...

I'm not sure if I can wrap my head around that, exactly. I mean, when I say 'black culture', I don't mean the negative aspects of it, like gangbangers or scary black guys in rough neighborhoods or whatever various negative aspect of black culture that people like to bring up, but keep in mind I'm talking about the completely benign aspects of it, just the manner of dress, speech, mannerisms, etc etc, just like any other culture in America.

Sure, there are aspects of culture that are okay to dislike (for example, people from SoCal tend to get on my nerves because of their mannerisms but generally I can't say I dislike it as a whole), but when it comes to this sort of thing I'm not sure if people like Mit dislike black culture because of whatever reason or because of, and this is why I made the 'middle white class suburbanite' quip, under exposure to it and the only real exposure to it is what you see on TV or whatever. Hell, I wouldn't even say that I myself subscribe to African American culture, sure, I was raised around it to a degree but I'm more of a 'T shirt and jeans' type guy than anything and my personality was never really tied to a culture, but still!

I mean when I went to college I experienced this by the handful; white people that came from the middle of nowhere and are UTTERLY SHOCKED to see what they would call 'normal black people'. I mean I'm not saying there are any racist motivations but ignorance, maybe?

Let me see if I can clear things up...

First off, I'm not going to be biased towards what you say. From your impressions here on RMN, you seem to be an intelligent, upright, nice human being.

Next, I guess I'd say that "some" of my opinion stems from ignorance. I guess I say I dislike black culture because, usually, the parts I'm exposed to are the aspects I just don't like--and not all of those aspects are negative. Simply speaking, I have come to dislike the general and most common behavior of African Americans (at least the one's here in Louisiana). This may seem confusing.

That's why I'm going to reiterate: I'm not racist and, deep down, I suppose can accept that most black people are upright human beings...just like I can say that most white people are, too, because I know there are many--for lack of a better word--"bad" white people in the world as well.

So, basically, what I'm trying to say is I don't like black culture because I find that I'm displeased with and am put off to the aspects of it I'm commonly exposed to.

I even don't like how I judge it this harshly, but...hell...my parents are the same way; I guess alot of them just rubbed off onto me.

But, Feld, you seem to be a good person in general, and I say this judging from you actions, words, and activity here on RMN, not judging from your ethnicity. You're okay in my book. =)

'normal black people'

I'm pretty sure there's no such thing as an abnormal black person. Except for the ones that are actually space aliens masquerading as black people.
