RELEASE SOMETHING! IX: SOMETHING ABOUT CATS
Posts

..:: December 21st, 2009 ::..
oto iz in ur rmns, poastin ur lame joakes
Everyone's favorite event with clever subtitles (that we'll NEVER run out of) is happening again! For the last time! The concept slightly different than VIII, VII, VI, V, IV, III, II and I (oh noez!):
- - For game submissions, we will only allow demos (no full games!)
- - Other submissions like OSTs, videos, etc... are still allowed (and encouraged!)
- - This is also going to be a mini-Play Something! and mini-Review Something! event*
- - The one week advanced notice was intentional
*I will be tracking submissions and tracking volunteers to review submissions. When we do sign ups we will also do REVIEW signups. So, bob and Joe and louie all say they're going to release a demo and norton and bob say they are going to review a demo. Bob calls louie's game and norton likes bob's and louie's game. So we'd end up with something like:
Demos - claimed for review
1) bob - Fun Time Game
2) louie - A Christmas Cave
Demos - unclaimed
1) Joe - Final Fantasy XXIV
Reviews
1) Norton - A Christmas Cave, Fun Time Game
2) bob - A Christmas Cave
Let's get the community involved in the other half of RSD!
As usually, we encourage everyone to release a demo or something on the 21st of December (even if it is a half-finished or semi-broken demo project or OST or something) and then everyone plays everyone else's stuff. Of course you don't have to officially sign up to do a review to do a review, but it is nice to let people know your intentions.
We will have three threads:
1. One for signing up and advertising Release Day! intentions (this thread)
2. One for posting A LINK TO your release's GAMEPAGE (no comments in this thread)
3. One for posting your thoughts and reviews of the released content

Doesn't this sort of collide with game chill and a lot of people working on that instead of finishing it for this?
Everyone's favorite event with clever subtitles (that we'll NEVER run out of) is happening again! For the last time! For the last time ever or for the last time this year? If ''ever'': Why?
@Shinan: EXACTLY that was my thought too.
And do I have to submit a review for the released games only or can I also partake with a review about another random game from database?

Yeah, I didn't do the Game Chill for that reason.
Ohh ra ra. I think I'm going to submit a demo of Dragon Fantasy: Venaitura 2 if I manage to get that far.
from Deacon BatistaSadly, yes. Last one ever. The event is getting too big to handle. Staff coverage of released stuff fell through the last two times (or so). Plus, there's the same argument that killed Play Something! Day: why do we need a day for people to do what they should be doing all the time anyway?

We plan on continuing RS!D as something smaller and more manageable in the future, but don't have any definite plans yet.
from Deacon BatistaI don't see why not!

This was scheduled back in January of '09, so technically game chill collided with it. But again, the point of RS!D was to get people to release their work-in-progresses that they've let sitting collecting dust - not whipping something up specifically for RS!D. So theoretically this isn't a big collision.
And sure Batista, review any game in the database! If you have a specific one in mind and want me to list it, let me know.
How little we know. I thought RSDs weren't that much planned in advance. I though they were more "hmm we haven't had an RSD in a while and nothing else is going on at the moment. Let's have the next one"
Behind the scene is a scary place... (Though mostly it's a place filled with inappropriate jokes)

...you just have a pirate cove forum and a ninja hideout forum because WIP has a mild sense of humor.
I always thought the idea of RSD was that people can show their games in a ''normal'' presentation since RMN does not allow this in comparison to other RM forums. The fact that everything is released on the same day is quite not good though because nobody can play all the stuff if it comes up all on one day.
About this RSD: I wanted to review The Way Part 6 soon anyway. So sign me in for that one cause I am playing it at the moment to finish the series. I think I'll have it through until the 21th.

Guys the point isn't "make something special for Release Something." The point is "Release Something."

21st is going to be tight? What's the latest I have to make a decision by?
The 22nd

You don't have to sign up, you can just post a release/whatever in the RS thread on the 21st.
Ok well since my game's a newbie project it's going to suck anyway I might as well give you all a chance to laugh at my horrible mapping skills and blatantly pirated music.
Game is called Get Ugly.
Game is called Get Ugly.
I'll probably release another demo for my game. It's very far from where I want it, but I should be able to get something new in it.
If not that, I'll probably either make my sister post her RPG and demo on here or steal it and post it on here myself. It is DAMN GOOD. My sister makes some of the best RPGs in the world. She doesn't have an account on here yet but I've constantly pestered her to get one.
JK about the stealing part.
