DS GAMES FOR CHRISTMAS
Posts
Which ones should I look into it? It's rapidly approaching and people have no gifts for me. I'd like a new DS game or two, except... I haven't been paying much attention.
Here are some things I like:
RPGs
2D Graphics
Platformers
Games that are good
I am pretty open to most genres, so long as the game is fun. I have a pretty sizable collection but nothing too new, so any personal favourites for suggestions would be much obliged. Time is critical, so respond respond respond! :D

Etrian Odyssey 1 & 2
SMT: Devil Survivor
LostMagic (this game is balls hard what the flying fuck)
FFTA2
Revenant Wings (RTS + Touch Screen + Ashe = <3<3<3<3<3. And Kytes is a destroyer of worlds.)
Mario & Luigi: Anything.
EDIT: In March grab SMT: Strange Journey or I take your nerd card.

Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story meets all requirements (although don't expect much from the platformer aspect)
Don't even bother with Partners in Time until you're tired of both Bowser's Inside Story and Superstar Saga

I own FFTA and 2, and Revenant Wings. I also own Superstar Saga. I'll probably ask for one of the other ones. That's a good suggestion!
edit: keep 'em comin'!

The new Zelda is pretty solid, as well as the Mario and Luigi's mentioned above.
I don't know if you like puzzles, but Picross is amazing. I'm not even really that big of a puzzle fan and I dig it.
RPG...
World Ends with You
Suikoden Tierkreis
Avalon Code
Chrono Trigger
Platformers...
Henry Hatsworth Puzzling Adventure... Pretty tough, but a good one to look into!
Any of the Castlevanias
New Super Mario Bros
Kirby Canvas Curse is awesome
And lastly Elite Beat Agents. It's awesome.

FFTA2
I don't buy a lot of games, but this is the last one I bought. While the story/dialogue sucks balls, it's completely nonessential that you read it. I find myself paging through the dialogue like crazy, yet still greatly enjoying the game.
I'm glad I bought it, but don't go into it expecting much from the story. Play it to enjoy the battles, strategy, and pro-grade unit building.
I've recently bought Super Dodgeball DS, and while it stays true to the original NES game, it just isn't as fun for some reason I can't explain. I thought maybe it was nostalgia so I played the original (ROM) but no, it was still fun after all these years. It was still an alright 2D game and it was worth the $13 I spent on it, though.
What about the Yoshi's Island DS game? I know it came out a few years ago now but it looks good. Yoshi's Island for the SNES was great.
EDIT:
Also, Black Sigil. Buy it and tell us what its like. Little indie places need support, too!

Don't get Etrian Odyssey 1. Just get 2.
Other good DS games:
-Contact (kooky exploration ARPGwith Cid Highwind as a main character*)
-The World Ends With You (very fun, unique and engaging RPG that you can play entirely with the touch screen (although battles are easier if you also control your second PC with the directional arrows))
-Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker (Pretty good, but only if you like monster ranching RPGs and DQ difficulty)
-Dragon Quest IV (askdlfhaklsndfklsadnfklasndkl nalksdn yessssssssss final boss has ~seven forms yessss)
-Phoenix Wright series (all of them are fantastic graphic adventure games. Well, get at least the first three (Ace Attorney, Justice for All and Trials and Tribulations), and then if you want FORENSICS get Apollo Justice)
-Harvest Moon DS (okay, not really a GOOD GAME but... the literal Japanese subtitle translation is "touch my cow seed." It's also just plain ol' fun to... rub your cow... ... ... and it's in Engrish!)
kentona: No.
*this is only a half-lie

I was thinking a lot about the Suikoden game for DS, but I have never played any Suikoden game (AND I HAVE NO INTENTIONAL OF IS BECAUSE I AM A HEATHEN), should I still get it?

who invited solid snake to the party
I swear to god David Hayter's voice is in Contra Rebirth
edit: then again I guess the character being named plissken makes it more obvious http://rpgmaker.net/users/Darken/locker/PlisskenVoice02.mp3

It is pretty cool. The battles are fast paced, and it is definitely a long game. It is kind of mission oriented, and the character models look a little funny, but the environments are nice. Story is ok, kind of your typical teens save the world/evil cult kind of a thing. For the most part the voice acting is ok but for the first part of the game the main characters voice is annoying. I would check out some reviews and videos first to see if it is something you would like. As far as I could tell the story was standalone (I haven't played another Suikoden either and I never had a problem following)
Yeah, Suikoden Teikries is pretty much a break away from the first five Suikoden's story- and world- wise, though the political factor is still there. It isn't bad as an actual RPG as long as you don't think of it as a Suikoden (and hence compare it to the better Suikodens). The voice acting can be annoying with some characters but once you get used to to it's fine, and the battles themselves are relatively easy and fast paced.
Graphic-wise it's pretty solid and character-wise it is as well (which is just as well for a Suikoden, damnit!). Give it a go and see if you like it.
I'll also throw in a few ideas.
I'll second the Phoenix Wright games first up - they're different from other games but a lot of fun. If you can get the first three then go for it because they have recurring characters as well as intertwining plots. They can all be played stand alone, though.
Also a little game called Trace Memory (or Another Code) that is rather short, but pretty puzzling. It's really is more of a puzzle mystery game.
If you like lots of puzzles and using your brain, keep an eye out for the Professor Layton series. I think there's two: PL and the Puzzling Village and PL and Pandora's Box.
Black Sigil is great in the graphics and sound departments but the clumsiness of the gameplay and slow moving storyline is a bit off-putting. The battles are drawn out affairs and can deplete you of a lot of items. They are also very, very frequent. Ridiculously frequent.

Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story meets all requirements (although don't expect much from the platformer aspect)
Don't even bother with Partners in Time until you're tired of both Bowser's Inside Story and Superstar Saga
Ironically, these are the only two "Mario and Luigi" games I've played, and I can vouch for both that your money would be well spent.
Darken
contra 4 cover
my buddy did almost all the male voice acting for that. he says it hugely trips him out to play as any of the characters he voiced.
Nostalgia is kind of a new RPG, and while it doesn't break any records(and the story is a bit silly) it's still pretty fun(and i'd say better than FF3/4).
Suikoden was also a good RPG, but not as fun as any of the other Suikodens.
Professor Layton is always a safe choice, i thought diabolical/pandoras box was better than the first, but they're both good.
Phoenix Wright is my favourite but won't be everyone's cup of tea, it's all about the characters and the story, not much inbetween.
Bowsers Inside Story is also very good.
Castlevania is possibly the best platformer along with New Super Mario Bros(though i didn't enjoy either all that much),
Hotel Dusk and Trace Memory are overlooked and i thought they were both good, the latter not as much though.
If you haven't already, get Pokemon Diamond/Pearl, Zelda(whichever really, the first will be cheaper though), Animal Crossing:WW and if you haven't already played Chrono Trigger, then that for the DS.
There's also a brilliant rhythm game called Elite Beat Agents, it'll be really cheap by now.
Oh and you might hear good things about Sribblenauts, but i found it to be extremely boring and crap. I'd stay away.
