I'm trying to import a title screen for my game in RM2k3, but every time I try, it says 'Invalid color depth'. When I try posting it onto an exported title screen, the colors get all screwed up. Can someone help?
You need to use a graphics program that can change the color depth (ex 16 mil down to 256 colors) It has to be 256 colors. I use Paint Shop Pro for that but I'm sure others have free examples.
You need to change your color depth to 8bit. It's going to lower the picture quality, without a doubt, but that's what you'll have to accept.
Photoshop can change colour depth, yes. You want to police your colours; reuse the same shade instead of using nearly identical shades, for instance. In order to change your colour depth in Photoshop, do the following:
Open the image.
In the menu bar, go to
Image>Mode>Indexed Colour...
And select local (selective), which will set it to 256 automatically. Photoshop is usually fairly good at selecting colours to minimize quality loss. After that, simply select Save As... and save it as a .png. .pngs are smaller but function identically to .bmps (outside of paint). If you edit a .png, it'll automatically revert to 24-bit colour though, so watch out.
