VINYL FANTASY 7

Now I know a lot of you would probably rather undergo extensive torture than give hip hop a fair shake to any degree, this is...interesting and worth a listen.

Basically, some enterprising folks mashed up various Final Fantasy VII tracks to a couple of hip hop talents, namely Outkast, Kool Keith, and Jay Z. While the tracks are some hit, some miss (I didn't like the first two tracks at all), it's an interesting venture and an unlikely duo, something I've never seen happen, ever, really. Some of them are quite good, and I like the idea this represents; music coming from unlikely places to create something bigger.
Give it a listen, if you're so inclined.

Ew, no.
Sorry, Feld; I will a agree that this is an interesting venture--and it probably has some nice compilations within for those willing to listen--but I just can't enjoy hip hop. It's not my cup of tea. =/
I hope I'm not coming off as a racist bastard, but it's just not my genre of preference.

I'm glad you said this. I will take this moment to enlighten everyone to the fact that the highest consumers of rap music are suburban white kids.
Seriously though, I never mentioned anything about race, so uh...?
This is surprisingly well done, but still more funny to me than anything :p which, since I guess this is a novelty, is appropriate. Nice find Feld!

No, you didn't say anything about race, but I've got somewhat of a negative history with the subject...such a topic has appeared in more than one place here at RMN (IRC and other threads) so I commented on it because you may remember some of those discussions (in fact this could be an example of one as well).

Okay...well, I'm not one of them.
Nevertheless I will reiterate: I'm sure this "Vinyl Fantasy 7" is considered interesting and good and all, but hip hop is not my genre of preference, so I didn't give this more than 15 seconds before pressing the back button.

I'm going to pretend that was Berret who sung. God that was weird. Good track tho.
There are more than one track! I especially like the Mideel remix.
The Ocarina of Rhyme was better, in my opinion. (I have actually been following these things for a while) All in all though, as a non-discriminating music enjoyer (who likes hip-hop and rap quite a bit) I quite enjoyed both albums, even though they really are 'novelty' status, as uh said.
I'm more a fan of Nerdcore that uses this sort of structure, though. Nerdcore rappers who add modern beats to oldschool chiptunes and rap over those- that's more my bag. While I do enjoy rap, I'm a nerdy white kid- I really can't relate to Nipsey Hussle when he does Gangsta's Life. Star Trek conventions? Now THERE's something I can relate to.
