As long as you're content having not even the slightest influence on proceedings that can and do affect the quality of your daily life, then not voting isn't too big of an issue. It just makes our votes count for more :p
also this site is a breeding ground for terrible analogies but man, that Ft. Hood bit takes the cake.
You really believe that one vote makes a difference? I have a bridge I'd like to sell. Interested?

If everyone had your mentality, we would be doomed.
Oh, get off of it. The high and mighty, every vote counts, it's your duty to vote, blah, blah. Voting is not an obligation, no matter what people tell you. It is a choice. Like abortion.

Nothing is really an obligation, truthfully. You can so whatever you want, just some things have bad repercussions. However, it's kind of smart to vote.

Of course it is a choice. You do realize people make choices and decisions every day, whether it's for situations that are of up most importance or simply what they are having for dinner tonight. There are such things as good choices and bad choices, however. Politics play an important role in our daily lives, and by note voting you could be supporting a bad decision that will ruin it for you or everyone else.

One vote alone is insignificant, that's why I vote for an established candidate that best represents my beliefs, instead of doing something like writing in MACHO MAN RANDY SAVAGE, even though that would be awesome.
Let's approach this problem mathematically, if 5 votes are 166% as effective as 3 (5/3 = 1.66) than one vote compared to zero (1/0)... hmm... for the sake of simplicity let's just round that up to infinity%. What was your point again? Oh yeah, justifying your apathy and laziness. Doing great so far.
edit: my point was that I don't really give a shit if you vote or not in case you were interested, but do please tell me I'm gullible for trying to be actively involved in a system I feel I have a lot at stake in (because I do).

I'm not allowed to marry because liberal college students are too busy to bother voting because "other people will" and "my vote doesn't matter."

post=124034I know how you feel Crazy. When Prop 8 was struck down I was crushed.

(Even though I'm not really gay, I still support the choice of marriage for everyone)
The fact that gay marriage is even a legislative issue sort of makes me vomit. I understand that "marriage" in this context is as much a legal status as a social one, but it always seemed to me to be completely out of the scope of the government's influence, not something left for them to decide or enforce.
STORY TIME!!!!
Back in my hometown there was a guy named Yoshi. Yoshi is gay. Yoshi and his man-lover applied for a marriage license in Massachusetts years before same-sex marriage was legalized, and got it because while submitting the couple to the "rigorous" inspections given to marriage license applicants, they thought Yoshi was a girl (it's a pretty unisex name). Yoshi legally married another man without governmental consent and the universe didn't implode. Imagine that.

I just need to marry a man named Ashley.
Ratty: I'm not sure you do feel the same way! See, you aren't treated like shit by a group of people that believe in a man with a beard floating in the sky. =D

Ok, whew, I'm off of this subject. I refuse to be drawn into the gay marriage thing. I completely disagree with everything you've all said, but hey, let's agree to disagree. You believe what you want, I'll do the same.
pff, what are the odds that a guy named Ashley would be gay :p
Nah. But hey, it's a moot point, because we're primarily able to enact our beliefs in the government through our voting privileges, and that's apparently too much trouble :p

uh: The logical side of me desperately wants to say THE SAME CHANCE AS ANY
but
we all know the truth.
but
we all know the truth.
the truth is NONE, Ashley is such a manly name that even all the girls named Ashley are into chicks. And can grow beards.
on the topic of prop 8/gay marriage, i don't believe in ruling options out (like gay/straight) especially where they apply to my own life. who knows, i might fall in love with a man some day. and if that happens, it would be really rad if the option for us to get married existed.
With prop8/marriage, why are they calling it marriage?
Marriage is derived from "holy matrimony" And we all know that gays don't want to marry just for religious reasons, they want to have the legal ability to meet their buddy by the bedside when they get AIDs, because as a properly "married" citizen they are counted as "family". Plus, don't forget about the legal bonuses when owning a house together, or adopting a children and the like...
I do not support gay marriage.
I do support gay couples. As in, the benefits of the above without the word "marriage" since that is saved strictly for biblical reasons, and we all know that the bible hates gays. :P God dammit, why can't marriage be separated from church and state? I'm a conservative, and my conservative buddies keep talking about religion when it has nothing to do with gay couples. I do believe in a political "marriage" Let's call it a "Union of Two Intimately Involved Same-sex People.". Because it has to be worded in a cheesy politically correct way.

My dad and step-mom (and dad and biological mother!) got married even though neither is religious in the least.
