So I just got my Retrode today. It is basically a USB adapter that you can plug SNES or Genesis carts into and it will give you a ROM file. Also in the case of SNES games, the .SRM file for the save RAM.

Daaaaammmmmnnnn, that's really nifty! I've never heard of such a device, how long have they been around to be relatively easy to get?
What about Super Famicom carts? I have a buttload of those I bought in Japan and I've been itching to use them properly.
(That is a super famicom cart)
Man at least I don't have to find a good SNES that isn't yellow and disgusting. I might consider this option!
edit: Can you apply english patches to jap games?

only half my SNES is yellow, thank you very much. This would be cool to be able to transfer your game saves onto a computer - i wonder if you can then transfer your rom saves ONTO the cart?
Hexatona, I THINK the .SRM file is read-only but I will give it a try with some of my other games.
Darken, you will be able to use a patch if you are able to get the emulator to do it from an external file. There is no way to overwrite the ROM file.

Obviously this is golden if you're good at writing various hacks and modifications for various games.

I preordered mine over a year ago when the project was first starting up, hence why I got a golden one (early preorder). They've only just recently become available to actually own.

Over a year ago? Come on now, it was hardly six months :)
post=126461It is read-only, until you remove the write protection by setting sramReadOnly to 0 in the retrode.cfg.
