random images were a useful way to get people to discover old and obscure games.
However, an update area with enough slots to prevent update battles is very nice. I like.
and I do think this will get more people to maybe pay attention to new games for a bit longer.

guys it's gotta be ABOVE THE FOLD

EVERYTHING MUST BE ON ONE PAGE. Scrolling is verboten.

Making it longer doesn't prevent update battles, the fact that a game can only get one spot on the list does.
I'd still like to have the 'latest games' on the front page. Not latest playable games, but latest projects added to the site.
If there was a way we could choose what we see on the front page, that would be awesome. You know, customize it for each profile. RMN could be like some sort of myspace/deviantart kind of social website, but with homemade games and no sexual solicitations or furry porn.

that is absolutely what it should be but i am 99% sure that is not how WIP sees it ;)
The level of work and complexity to implement something like that would make it unfeasible.
As if YOU would even care for the mainpage, geo... -,-
But about these changes: The new ''recently changed'' stuff on the lower right is a very good idea. But somehow I miss the random screenies, cuz sometimes they showed interesting games I would never find otherwise. And sometimes there are indeed some small hidden unknown treasures in the deepths of the database including games that have no review yet.
I would suggest to put the ''the latest'' stuff as some kind of small horizontal banner to the top and install the random screenies at its place. In my opinion the ''the latest stuff'' is not that important, because it is all about the forum.

some who has the utterly wrong idea
it is all about the forum.
WIP is going to love this.
I'm pretty sure he meant: "the latest stuff is about the forums, which isn't important." But uh, I'm pretty sure it's about announcements and specific material that needs attention.
Well, then it's just incorrect in a different way. ;/
I really miss the random images. I could browse those for hours if I had that back. It was really nice to see some obscure game people had forgotten about.

Exactly. So I wouldn't remove them, but just make them smaller and so give space back to the random pics.
The Latest tends to contain major Articles or moderately large site shifts, such as the implementation of new features or a new Featured Game. I'd say it's good to have nice and prominent for new visitors.
RMN: MSPaint edition.
EDIT: <everyone> THAT LOOKS SO COOL WIP MAKE THAT HAPPEN WE DON'T CARE IF IT'S CLUTTERED.
(that said, I like some of those ideas but it really puts a strain on space.)
