look, i don't like to brag but ghost in a bottle won me 15 dollars from a very exclusive contest. i know you're jealous of all the fame that it has, but, i do not blame you.

not everyone can sit on top of a tower created from success, misaos, and rpgmaker babes.

I notice you have multiple unfinished RPG Maker projects. Where do you fall on this scale?

it's funny how you jump on my post, when it's clearly just my opinion and i think i have room to speak that because unlike most people i have made games.

at first i just wanted to play it off, but you're kind of a scrub, dude. really, i do not know what you've made or what you're working on, but it is probably not that good.

i am sorry my post bothered you so much, random guy on rmn.

If only you knew what he had coming. And it is a Collaborative piece.
I am collaborating with a guy from gamingw right now who's doing the Frog World RPG soundtrack. I'm enjoying it a lot because we are both kind of working autonomously, like he sends me really bizarre UNGAMELIKE experimental stuff and I kind of improvise the game to fit the music and it's going in a really neat direction I would never have thought of by myself. I think this is more fun than trying to bend someone else to your ideas or farming out game sections to people. I think it'd be better in general to think of a collaboration as just that and to maybe base it on what COULD BE NEAT or working with people who seem interesting rather than basing it all on mapping experience etc. Just being less precious about stuff overall. Maybe not but I like the idea.
I've tried to do collaborative projects, but they usually fall apart....finished solo games are more impressive than finished collaborative projects, if you ask me.

But are they worth it? If harmonic had a better writer, Legacies of Dondoran would be much better and have taken less than five years.
Or it could've taken longer due to having to orchestrate the teamwork with the writer. You never know when you venture into a collaborative project.

How much a game impresses me doesn't depend on the number of people who made it, but the game itself...

That's a great way to look at collab projects man. The best way, imo

nonsense

I have never claimed any of my projects are good. One should not presume such things. =)

More on topic:

As Ark alluded to, I have worked on a collaboration project with Silviera for some time. I think one of the reasons it has lasted as long as it has is because we stay out of each other's way. He is the project lead and decides where the main direction of the project goes, and I generally am fine with letting him do so. In turn, he lets me do pretty much whatever I want for the project, however random it might be, and is usually willing to find some way to work it in. Occasionally he and I collaborate directly on something, and those are always our favorite parts.

I should note though, I have attempted to persuade him to reduce the project's immense scope without success. =)

Soli and I actually had this discussion a day or two ago! We are basically the opposite (imagine that).

Okay, so Karsu and I have our set "best" areas, we DO overlap, and we DO have plenty of sway on each other. He writes the story, but I throw plenty of ideas at him. I design the battle system, but he designs the skillsets. I want gay art, he wants lesbian art. Et cetera.

Basically, Soli's favorite parts? That's the entirety of Krazumane projects. We do almost everything together, except he rarely touches maps and scripts, and I rarely touch the actual dialogue or drawn art (except grammar issues and typos and whatnot that inevitably happen when writing a novel's worth of text). And between the two of us, we cover almost all of the RM* dev bases. We only miss the music and tileset marks, and we both struggle somewhat with dungeoneering (something I have desperately been trying to improve on).

I wasn't talking of impressing someone with the product of it, it's not the same kind of "impress", it's the "Oh, he actually managed to complete this game by himself?" not "Oh, he made it by his self this game is going to rock" i know what I'm thinking, but it's hard to put into words . Sorry :x
I have been collaborating with a friend of mine on an Rm2k project which has been going since about 2007 or so. It's an incredibly impractical approach that we have taken. One person adds on to the game and mails it back to the first person who adds a little more. We keep a debug room full of notes to each other, strange options, and gags. We get together and talk about what is happening and what will happen with out characters and so on. It's been the most fun I have had working with any Rpg Maker. I highly recommend it.

I am more impressed by things that were all done by one person but I'd rather the game be slightly better and made by two. I'm not against collaborating it's just when one guy makes something like Three The Hard Way all by himself, I'm like...WOW, dude.

@Critical_Failure:

That sounds really fun!
