TRANSLATING WORKS

I'm in the middle of translating a popular French RPG Maker game series, for the sole purpose of improving my French. I was wondering though, if I were to attempt posting the finished product here, would it be accepted?

The reason I ask is that I currently do not have the author's consent. He seems to have disappeared under even more mysterious circumstances than RPG Advocate did... he was set to release the fourth game in the series in 2007, then I suppose no one ever heard from him again? Or at least that's what it looks like from the various forums I've been scouting. So I've decided he's dead, unless he suddenly emails me back.

I'll hold off defending my position until I absolutely need to. But what are your thoughts?
Well... rmgames aren't under legal restraints. So it's a matter of common sense. And I don't see a reason why it shouldn't be accepted. You're just getting the game to be played by more people.
Whenever I translated/released someone else's work I made sure to get permission. I don't really believe in putting up other peoples' work but a translation is a different matter. If the creator has vanished and has not specifically restricted this, you should ask WIP.

Yes they are.

Either way, I would accept it if it went through the queue. It seems the original product is mostly dead so yeah.

o god it's not laxius power is it?
lol no, although someone needs to fix those ones up eventually :P

It's "Dyhortfight" by bradgeone, a series that was hailed for its technical prowess in 2001 (waaaaaaaay back) although the second and third are supposed the be much better than the first. I'm just hoping no one translated them under a different name already, my google searches came up empty for english versions.
Oh, good news!
He's alive and I now have consent! I suppose he just hasn't been too active in the community much lately.
