No, not another "RMN, we need to talk," topic. In this one, I actually am going to bring a solution to the table.

First of all, I must apologize to most of you. For a while I have been pretty angry that I don't think most games get the amount of feedback that they deserve. I and the rest of the staff proposed many events to try to encourage people to do more reviews. But you know what? It isn't really fair to ask you to do a review if you don't want to. A review is a pretty large time investment and is often subject to a lot of scrutiny. You may fear that you will hurt someone's feelings by writing a negative one.

So this time, I am not going to ask you guys to write reviews. I am going to ask you to do something else.

I call it the "Three Minute" movement. This is a new idea to help stimulate feedback and commentary on projects. To participate, all you need is two things. You need to have played some of the game in questions, and you need three minutes.

How does it work?!

Simple. After you have played a game for a while, you take three minutes, no more or less, to post a comment or send a PM about the game in question, addressing one or more of the following:

-something you liked about the game
-any concerns you had
-any problems you encountered

Getting feedback on projects is enormously motivating and you'll probably make somebody's day just by doing this simple thing.

So folks, get out there and start commenting on games. Take a few minutes to help out your fellow developers, and maybe they'll do the same for you! If you enjoyed a game at all, you can take three minutes to tell the developer this.

Come on, it only takes three minutes! If you're browsing this site, you have three minutes.
I see no banner for this event! For shame!

I should probably do this.

This isn't an event, it is an on-going thing that everyone should always do forever from now on!

Y'know, I was considering doing something like this, since I seem to be incapable of reviewing things anymore. Of course, there's still the requirement that I actually PLAY something, too, so we'll see. This is a good idea, though! One that probably should've gone without saying, but still!
Alright. I'll do this.
I review everything that I play, I just don't play anything... Maybe something's wrong with me; the time commitment of the review isn't what gets me, it's the time commitment to the game.
This is a great idea. And yes, simply demanding more reviews from the entire community is unfair. Not only does it take a hefty amount of effort/time, but some people are just not inclined to write reviews, and that's perfectly fine, ie. English is not their primary language but they still enjoy playing indie games, people who are not used to writing organized, tactful, critique, etc.

But more reviews in the community is always nice...
maybe have specific reviewers on staff, doesn't seem like a completely terrible idea, just throwing in my 2cents.

Haha, didn't know that, are there any other people that has this job? (Explains why Solitayre churns out so many reviews)
If there isn't maybe having more isn't a bad idea.
I keep trying to comment on game pages but sometimes there is no reply box below. I keep refreshing and changing browsers but it wont appear on most games.
@sunshine:
Silviera, halibabica, Brickroad (but brick hasn't been around for awhile). Putting people on the staff doesn't really make them push out more reviews (believe me, I would know).
I think it's a good idea.

But I kinda do this already.

I try reviewing every game I play, and if I don't, I at least try posting a comment. But if I played the game extensively, I feel bad about posting a comment when I could be writing a review.

I have like... 40 games which I'm subscribed to. My notices tab isn't blinking like crazy. Let's see where this goes...
I suggest a parallel "Five minute movement" then:

Those of you who usually don't play any games:
Take 5 minutes and play something.
If you don't enjoy it, drop it.
If you think it's worth giving a few more minutes... mission accomplished. :D

Honestly... there are a lot of good stuff out there. It's just a matter of looking. I really stopped buying commercial games after RMN. And if you're one of the "I think it's more important to invest my time doing my game than playing other people's", you have no idea how much you're missing in terms of ideas and inspiration.

I am quoting this because I think this is absolutely true.

Ugh, you got me there. I shall go find a game... and play it! Onwards!

If this endeavor goes well, I'll probably end up doing this daily.
So if I did this... it would be like... one minute finding a game to play, one minute of playing your game, 30 seconds of writing a single sentence comment and 30 seconds to post it up!

I think he means three minutes for the comment itself.
Weell wasn't that a little experience. I chose the first demo that didn't have a review, in other words, this: http://rpgmaker.net/games/62/

I spent 3 minutes downloading it, 1 minute realizing I needed the RMXP RTP, 10 minutes downloading that. Spent 5 minutes realizing I needed auditional audio files to run it, then another 6 to download those. Spent 5 again figuring out where to put the audio files. Then I watched a 10 minute cutscene and wandered around chatting to NPCs for 10 minutes before getting stuck in a tree. Then I spent 10 minutes writing a detailed report! Total time: 60 minutes. Wait, something's missing here.

Though I feel oddly compelled to try it again. Back tomorrow.
Hehehe... better luck next time!

I'm sure your detailed report will be helpful to the creator and to other players anyway.
