IS A CHARACTER APPEARANCE CUSTOMISATION SYSTEM POSSIBLE IN XP/VX?

I'm curious as to whether anybody has created a scripted system that allows the player, at the start of the game, to choose the appearance of their main character to a basic degree - hair style/colour, eye colour, skin colour, and maybe attire.

I'm assuming it's impossible or highly impractical, but it would be interesting to see such a system implemented into an RPG Maker game.
This is really unhelpful but I know I've seen a script somewhere that allowed you to change appearances based on equipment, I THINK it had the option of look customization. This is for VX. Try here:

There's the script I believe you were referring to, Darken. Made by modern algebra, the VX scripting pimp.

It really depends how complex you want to make it. I have these systems in several of my games but they are EXTREMELY simplified, not the 2D equivalent of what you'd find in Oblivion.
There is no 2D equivalent really, Oblivion had incredibly complex facial variables on sliders. You can't really convey that in 1024 pixels of a character. LaTale is a good example of the perfect amount of customization in a 2D game to help prevent the everyone-looking-the-same problem you have with other MMORPGs.
