Nintendo had a Gamestop event last week to market DQ9, and I got the Zoma treasure map. He slaughtered my party like a bunch of sheep. My martial artist took 663 HP damage in one hit ...

I just saw the gametrailers review of DQ9 - I must say I was impressed. I woiuldn't use the multiplayewr aspect, but I appreciate the many customization options. I'm always a fan of making all the equipment change the look of your character.
Why wouldn't you use the multiplayer, Hex?

Well, I'm assuming it's multicard, so I wouldn't have anyone to play with.

It annoys me when there is multiplayer exclusive content - like in Final Fantasy III DS.
Ugh, I know what you mean. Just because something HAS online doesn't mean you should make rewards specifically requiring it.
Oh don't get me started on how pissed I was at FFIII DS because of that stupid Moogle Mail...

On topic however, I've only done multiplayer twice, and it works pretty well. My only gripe is that they couldn't make it Wi-fi.
But yeah, it is hard to find people I know who actually own it though -_-
That can be problematic, too. Especially if the friend you know will play it with you doesn't have the game and expects you to buy it for him. So want the game, now.

Who would just buy someone a game so they can play multiplayer with them!?

Apparently I'm a very old man. Time to pull up my pants to my nipples.

PEOPLE WHO SAY MAGES SUCK:

You are doing it wrong.

Mages deal damage to multiple foes. Melee characters deal damage to single foes. Mages deal as much damage as a Warrior does to multiple foes.

Also, read the bestiaries for elemental tips. Alsoalso, Aceleratle/Sap are very important if you're not over-powered - note to mention Oomph. If you want to go nuts, use Spellcraft to get the Scary Glare (?) ability. It lowers magical defense - to kill Tyrantula, I had my hero psyche up to 100 while my Mage used Scary Glare/Sap, then they combo'd Crackle for a total of ~400-500 damage. Two shots of this with my Priest and... I think Warrior adding in hits when they could made my Mage feel awesome in his ultratranny clothes (he is wearing small undies, the mage-only turban and that cross-dressing-prone Fizzle-retardant Suit).

...that previous paragraph was me explaining how to make Mages useful damage-wise in boss battles.

BUT SERIOUSLY: Mages attack MANY ENEMIES. Use Bang. Use Bang all the time (actually I don't since my Mage uses a whip to chip in a bit; I don't want two characters both using wands since my priest is Beezelfreezing Pink Sanguinis like a pro (even though she's currently an Armamentalist and my Thief is grinding out Priest points to upgrade Faith and be a better lame healer (pipe dream))).
I kind of wish I could keep spells between classes in this game, as the Minstrel's lack of good healing spells is starting to screw me over, but I just don't want to change her xD Same with the rest of my characters, Martial Artist, Warrior and mage, 'cause they're doing their jobs well: The Warrior and Martial Artist slaughter things while the mage spams Bang, Sap or Accellerate depending on the situation (The later two generally being boss fights)

I'll persevere though, even if it means a million tries at fighting Lleviathan...

Switch vocations when looting dungeons, switch back to your "real" vocation for bosses.

Two words, Metal Slimes. Also, tension is your best friend if you want to turn boss battles into jokes (100 tension+Oomph+Falcon Blade+Falcon Strike= Win.)

But yeah, I hated how screwed over the Minstrel was (I guess like the Red Mage.) Oh well, I solved my problem by just having an overpowered sage.

You're supposed to change classes. ;_;

At the very least:
Warrior -> Paladin
Thief -> Ranger
Minstrel -> Luminary
Priest -> Sage
Mage -> Armamentalist
Martial Artist -> Gladiator

(But of course you can still switch as you need for bosses, and also be a lot more creative in your vocation changing.)
Oh how I long for a DS.
Anyone know if the 3DS will be backwards compatible? Or should I just go out and get a regular DS now before it disappears?

It will be backwards compatible.

Depends what you mean by "backwards compatible". The lack of GBA backwards compatabilitly in newer versions is why I still have an original DS.

and the lack of Original Gameboy compatibility is why I still have my GBA!~

Download VBA. Why the hell should the DSi bother with GBA compatibility? There hasn't been a GBA game made for four years. Also, VBA.
