REQUEST:TILE SETS FOR RM2K3

Posts

Like, okay, I guess I'll say something.

I'm sort of conflicted here. On one hand, members who have been here for a while (or haven't!) should always be respectful of one another, newbies or no. It's really no fun joining a site for the first time, asking for help, and getting dicked (or 'shitted on', as TFT said, which made me chuckle. Thanks dude.) The last thing I want to promote or encourage is a 'cliquish' attitude because a new user doesn't know much about the rules of the trade as well as we do; "Hahah, look at this guy. He doesn't even know the three tile rule. Let's TP his house". If someone is really new to the scene, they may not know that someone making entire tilesets for them is pretty much a faux pas as far as asking goes. However that's an innocent thing to not know, because that unsaid rule doesn't apply to a lot of other things, like character sets, or entire soundtracks for some of us!

In retrospect the most mature thing to do would be to simply correct him, tell him how it is, and see how he responds. In that respect, Aten's response, especially since it was the VERY FIRST response and likely the very first time someone in the community has ever addressed him directly, was kind of out of line!

HOWEVER, on the other end of the spectrum, stupidity is hilarious, and while I won't say it DESERVES to be ridiculed, well...TC's comma defense was pretty funny. Basically, if someone is just flat out stupid and not only doesn't know, but doesn't care to know and doesn't care about not knowing, well, there's pretty much what's coming to them. Not knowing is one thing, but it's hard to sympathize to a thicko.

My overall response to this topic is that this guy's reception could have been a lot warmer, and the proper thing to do was just to tell him the ropes and see what he says from there.
Did no one read my second post... The shit only hit the fan after he made his defense.
Your second post should have been your first post, man!

Thanks, I will make a new topic on basically the same request, however with more detail, and just for the record, I didn't expect someone to make ALL the tiles, just a few that I can't get, or...well...ect. ect. XD
I agree with a little of everybody's thoughts on this. It is not nice to be spoken to like he was. But most of you guys have backed him up, so i'm sorry for calling "everyone" assholes, coz clearly, not all of you are.

As regards of manner, eloquence and grammar, the way I see it, is that you never ever know who you are talking to on the internet. They could be older or younger than you, from another country, not know English very well, have mental problems, learning difficulties, disabilities, so on and so on. We're not posting an ad in the papers or applying for a spelling bee, we just want help or to discuss a matter.
So as long as you cn red teh lin off txt, wots da big fu**** deel bichez?
So Aten, there was no need for your first comment at all. You should of just answered his question and left it at that. If you wanna go show off your excellent grammatical one line insults, then i have a great website for you to check out; www.younoob.com :)

Raku, welcome to the community and have fun making your game.

While I have no idea what other peoples' opinion on this is, personally, I find it very hard to take seriously anything that is written improperly and without much thought to grammar unless there is a proper reason for such conduct.

Writing legibly and correctly implies the writer took time and thought things over whilst writing whatever it is he/she wants to say. With that implication I feel more encouraged to take my time to read what has been said seriously. If the writer uses the best of his language skills to communicate, I, as the reader, feel obliged to repay that effort by taking my time to read what has been said in a serious and mature manner.

Writing sloppily, on the other hand, leads to anywhere from neutral to negative responses. There is nothing encouraging the reader to take the time to read what is said. To further compound the issue, not only is the writing harder to read, there is no sense of obligation as a reader because I feel as if the writer did not care too much about what he said.

To be sure, I am certain nobody here is asking for everyone to use 100% correct English. The internet (and for that matter the whole world) is global and there are just as many, if not more, non-English speakers as there are English speakers. With the exception of those that genuinely don't know English and those with disabilities (who for the most part make this clear to start with, as it's hard to judge such traits over the internet), I don't think it's unreasonable to ask that communication be done in a manner that is clear and easy to understand for everyone.

Writing sloppily benefits no one and that's really all there is to someone asking that English (or whatever language is in question) be used relatively properly.
I bet that took you more than 10 mins to think about what you were gonna say, check it, then read it back 2 yourself. Congrats on your speech, but i personaly think that you're wrong n too serious bout grammar n stuff on lil sites like these 1's.
As long as it can be read then there's no problem.
wut r u talkn abut every1 cn red wut i wrt i m & take me srs

I can't tell what is more retarded; the original post, the resulting 3 pages of (mostly) inane responses or the fact I am responding to those responses. I suspect the latter...

It suffices to say, this topic is ridiculous.

I'd say it's just you mate.
Well, I'm glad this got settled!

Also, Strangeluv, I clicked that link. I saw Mewtwo.

With boobs.

I was scarred.
Sometimes you have to make a sacrifice for some glorious chapsets...

This is what baffles me the most, actually. Why are certain forms of communication (these forums, for instance) "lower" in so-called "value" that one does not need to make full use of his language skills?

Take Raku96, for instance. He's demonstrated now that he has acceptable skill in using English. What reason was there to not use that skill and instead use sloppy writing? Especially because it's a "lil site" or a "forum" or whatever?

I just cannot see the logical reasoning behind using almost-perfect English in a written essay and then using sloppily written English when communicating through another medium. The apparent difference in "value" between the mediums of communication is illogical and it boggles my mind.
that's why you're sat inside watching animes and i'm out on the tiles having a ball. a little thing called context. language is very situational

I can see that applying to how long and/or in-depth a certain piece of communication would be. I cannot, however, see how that applies to sloppy writing in general when you can perform much better without much effort.
Just so we're clear all I said was "ahahaha" when he claimed spaces after commas were unnecessary!

If you're asking me not to laugh at shit like that then... then I just don't know what to do
simply put it's not worth caring about! there are more important things in life (like chipsets)

That laziness (and in this case, arrogance) resulted in this shitstorm of a topic. I rest my case. ;_;
