THE FREEWARE GAME RECCOMONDATION PAGE

Know of any good freeware games that aren't on RPG Maker Network? Not sure if this kind of thread is allowed, but anyway, I'm running with it.

KNYTT STORIES-http://nifflas.ni2.se/index.php?main=02Knytt_Stories
A platformer where the focus is more on exploration and atmosphere than racking up points. Graphics are simple, but there are loads of neat touches everywhere. Comes with several different adventures and an engine you can use to make more. The people who made this also created Within a Deep Forest, also reccomended.

THE DESOLATE ROOM & LEGACY OF FLAN 4-www.scottgames.com
Both of these games are pretty different from each other--Desolate Room is really off-beat and messes around with your head a lot, while Legacy of Flan is a pretty good fusion of casual games and Pokemon. Both are RPGs with 3-D graphics and oddly fitting music.

DWARF FORTRESS-http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/
I haven't actually played this, but I've only heard good things about it. Supposedly ridiculously complex, but lightyears ahead of any strategy game, freeware or otherwise.

THE WAY-lun.cjb.net
ALL HAIL THE WAY! Since it isn't on the site, I might as well mention it here. Has one of the best casts of characters of any freeware RPG ever.

DIVER DOWN-http://www.the-underdogs.info/game.php?id=4752
Another freeware game I haven't played, but have heard good things about. A full game made with Verge, it has a very good story and a whole lot of puzzles.

EVERLONG-http://www.freewebs.com/everlongrm2k/
Dark knights, the four Elemental Fiends, a rather nifty skill system, various optional bosses and hidden summons, an evil Empire, a heroic Resistance...it's Everlong, possibly the closest thing RPG Maker 2003 has to a bona-fide Final Fantasy game. It is also huge.

That's all I can think of, for the moment.

Effing Cave Story. If you don't know what this is, you don't know what you're missing out on.

Also, Everlong was originally titled "Final Fantasy 13," iirc.
I am pretty sure legion saga isn't on this site. I only ever played the first one and that was for like 15 minutes. It wasn't my type of game but it seems to be very popular.
From the same guys that now make Dwarf Fortress.

Liberal Crime Squad

It doesn't get more fun than this :D
LA MULANA-http://agtp.romhack.net/project.php?id=lamulana

An old-school action-adventure game known for being ridiculously difficult. Supposedly worth it, though!
Against all odds, the freeware bonanza continues!

KNYTT STORIES--http://nifflas.ni2.se/index.php?main=02Knytt_Stories

A very atmospheric platformer compromised of a series of short, nonlinear adventures. There is also a somewhat limited tool for creating your own stages.

There used to be a very nifty RPG Maker RPG called Wildcard floating around, which was basically one of the best RTP games ever. I can't find it anywhere...

Also, if you have yet to experience the pain, google Syobon Action. Or watch a YouTube video of it being played.

LA MULANA-http://agtp.romhack.net/project.php?id=lamulana

An old-school action-adventure game known for being ridiculously difficult. Supposedly worth it, though!

Oh god.

Whenever anyone says that La Mulana is 'Rediculous Difficult', they're lying.

This game is beyond that.

There's no way I'll ever finish this game, not without a constant visual aid to guide me. The game is just way too massive, too many secrets and vague puzzles, and oh god.
Um, that's why you watch LET'S PLAY LA-MULANA!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qEn5huyUcsg

Although even the guy who made those videos cracks sometimes. Particularly during the Hell Temple.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eY0IH80cHB0

Actually, the LET'S PLAY LA MULANA videos are worth watching if only for the Hell Temple Sequence, for an in-depth view into absolute psychosis.

Oh, and apparently I've already mentioned KNYTT STORIES. Oh well.
That's the visual aid I was talking about. Without it, it would've taken me even longer to reach the third boss (which is where the game really opens up). There's no way I could ever find the time to figure out the game on its own.
Aw man, why does Lyle in Cube Sector always get passed by?
http://www.sitesled.com/members/bogo/lyle.html

It's sort of reminiscent of Metroid, only it doesn't take itself seriously. It also plays like a NES game, so download it swines.
Whoops! I honestly couldn't get past the first part--couldn't figure out how to throw cubes (I must be an idiot...) but I've heard only good things about it.

Also check out A Game With A Kitty 2: Darkside Adventures, another game I've only heard good things about but which I've never gotten very far in.

Oh, and also try Chalk. It's pretty awesome, and the boss fights are rather intense. It's made by the same guy who made Noitu Love, but it's a very different game.

That Demon Legacy game is quite alright. I just finished the game the other day and it was great. It also seems to be very popular among the rpg community.
Castlevania: Sonata in Red:

http://www.freewebs.com/sonatainred/index.htm

It's a Castlevania RPG!

Believe it or not, it's actually pretty good. Lots of custom systems and great sound effects, and although the battles are a bit boring so far the game gets the Castlevania feel almost exactly right. Definitely worth trying, at least.

I am assuming these games are considered freeware (they are free)

Trilby/Czho Series
An excellent adventure game series with a great and complex story, one of the best villians ever (The Tall Man), clever puzzles, and all around excellent. Also, the story doesn't really pick up until the third game, where it becomes really intriguing.

Also, there are a lot of games on the page, so here is the order of them:

5 Days a Stranger
7 Days a Skeptic
Trilby's Notes
6 Days a Sacrafice

Also, there is a Trilby Art of Theft game that is pretty good, but not directly involved with the storyline.
More freeware games: FLail and An Untitled Story. FLail is a game in the style of N, with several unlockables and some pretty hard levels. An Untitled Story is basically Seiklus or Knytt, but with more platforming segments and an even greater length.

Xgen studios has some really good games - my favorite is motherload:

Quoted from the site - "Motherload; The game that takes you under the surface of arcade-style gaming and into the roots of fun. Tipping the hat to old favorites such as Dig Dug and Boulder Dash, Motherload incorporates a modern interface, fast-paced gameplay, and an in-depth storyline. Experience exciting gameplay in the substrata of Mars, where you'll search for the Motherload; A fabled cache of rare and valuable minerals."

Hey, I read online that Bungie, the creator of Halo, is releasing their old Marathon FPS series as freeware. I'm at achool right now so I can't post the link but I'll put it up, don't worry.
