post=151850Yeah, I agree! An article examining the greater RM community should have focused on a the small almost imperceptible minority of the highly esoteric games!
Well for one thing the first paragraph of it is bashing the RPG Maker community. =P
It is also inundated with ideas from the kentona school of design; that we are all making rehashes of 8-bit games and there is nothing new, inventive or original in the community.
Really, though, what were you expecting? And, though I may be biased, I have no problem with the kentona school of design.
There is nothing wrong with the kentona school of design but I don't feel it is an accurate representation of the community. The article is still well-written and informative though.

Bashing? It's a fair assessment if you ask me.
post=151850This is actually how I felt about the article but I was kind of afraid to admit it thanks Soli *hides behind Soli*

EDIT: Also, are there really that many commercial RPG Maker developers? That's news to me.
Not that I know of, really. *buys domain rpgmakerpro.net in anticipation*
In the first page of the article, in the intro section, he says that people are pushing the limits of the maker and spinning grandiose tales not possible in other mediums.
That kind of implies that there is something new, inventive or at least original in the community, imho.
EDIT:
plus that plug for RMN being inventive and inspiring.
EDIT2:
gift horse in mouth etc etc

To be fair, there isn't anything new, inventive or original in commercial RPG design, either, so at least the playing field is level.
Hell yes I want my party to "consist entirely of pre-pubescent girls with otherwordly* strenght* and the ability to throw fireballs"!
Great article, it is.
