SCI-FI SERIES'
Posts
I'm guessing this is the best place to put this...
Sooo I decided to watch Farscape all the way through from Season 1, and got to wondering to what I'm gong to watch after I finish all 4 seasons in terms of Sci-Fi. So far I can think of Battlestar Galactica (Definately will watch that at some point), Babylon 5, Star Trek (All of 'em... probably watch a different Sci-Fi in between the diff Series') and Firefly/Serenity.
Anyone know of any others? I'm not really that fussy so any suggestions are welcome.

Naa definately mean Sci-Fi, as in the Genre not the TV channel. Unless the genre's abrieviation has changed in the past few years...
On another note, I keep underestimating how long episodes of Farscape last... keep thinking they're 30 mins but they're just under an hour... so much for getting a good amount of sleep tonight...

Well, don't forget the Peacekeeper Wars, and if you're doing Battlestar, there's the prequel series Caprica. Total Recall 2070 was interesting, although it was more like Blade Runner than the movie. Both are based on Philip K. Dick stories. Stargate SG-1 was good, has a very strong (and accurate!) military theme. Ben Browder and Claudia Black star in the last season. I'm actually going through Stargate Atlantis right now, and quite frankly, I'm a little disappointed (but I'm determined to give it a chance). There's also the B5 spinoff, Crusade.
A great cheesy SyFy (before it was SyFy, I agree stupid name)series is First Wave. There's also Tekwar, written by William Shatner, and if Star Trek is your thing, then Andromeda and Earth: Final Conflict are out there. I know nothing about the Terminator Series, but that's out there as well as Robocop. Jericho is a Post Apocalyptic series, I think it was cancelled. Millenium, with Lance Henrickson is sort of a dark sci-fi, in an X-Files kind of way (Chris Carter created it, so it makes sense). Dark Skies has a conspiracy theory theme in connection to the Roswell Incident. Can't forget Alien Nation and SeaQuest DSV. Or Dark Angel, with Jessica Alba (yum!)
I remember a Witchblade show, but I only saw a few episodes of that, seemed alright. Dr. Who is a great low budget show. The Dresden Files was decent, and I'm probably the only person who enjoyed Lexx.

I dunno, I only liked Dr. Who when it was David Tennant. The other ones...not so much. And I hate the fact that they changed him to some other actor. That really killed it for me.
That's quite a few... and many I should damn well know of.
Stargate especially seeing as my dad has (almost) all the ones from when they did the magazine that came with DVDs, plus some of the Stargate Atlantis ones. Definately need to get round to watching them all myself, though I've seen a few.
Andromeda I should have remembered exists, but not actually seen any of. I've seen some of the Sarah Conner Chronicles along with the Terminator Movies (Well bits of 'em atleast) and I've watched all recent series' (Pretty much) of Doctor Who.
Just 'cause it's bugging me, I'm guessing Warehouse 13 would come under Sci-Fi aswell? For what episodes I got to watch before my parents forgot it was on TV and let my bro play Modern Crapfare 2 through it, I quite enjoyed it.
EDIT: In reply to MKid, David Tennant never had a Fez, and Fez's are cool.

They did that every season. I enjoyed seeing the different actors playing different personalities. Oh, before I forget there were some great miniseries. Taken, Invasion: Earth, Ultraviolet (NOT the movie) and The Prisoner remake. If you haven't seen the original Prisoner, check that out too.
Also, The Invisible Man was another show that ran the same time as First Wave.
AAARRRRGGGH I totally forgot Mystery Science Theater 3000! And Red Dwarf!

Someone shoot me for forgetting Red Dwarf, and I guess Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy falls under this aswell.
I'm a go die now, or atleast get some sleep and reply to this when I get back from the far north of the British Isles on Sunday and remember that I made this topic...

Protip: Skip Star Trek Voyager. It's terrible.
Enterprise isn't much better but the fourth season is actually... decent.

There's a lot of recent SF that you've probably seen already. The most obvious is probably the V remake. But also Lost, Heroes, Fringe have SF bents to them. And the British series Misfits and Life on Mars + sequel spinoff Ashes to Ashes.
And the short-lived Jericho.
But really you should be good with Babylon 5. What else does a person really need?

It's not that bad. Some episodes feel too...meh, but on the whole the series is pretty good.
Wikipedia
Science fiction is a genre of fiction dealing with the impact of imagined innovations in science or technology. It differs from fantasy in that, within the context of the story, its imaginary elements are largely possible within scientifically established or scientifically postulated laws of nature (though some elements in a story might still be pure imaginative speculation).
Criminal Minds.
The West Wing
I haven't seen it but I hear Sapphire & Steel is meant to be pretty good! It's an old british series about two aliens investigating time distortions or something and all the episodes are apparantly about haunted phonographs and subway stations and things. Basically like an even more b-list Doctor Who I guess?? Being b-list is a good thing because it sometimes means more likely to be bizarre and off-key. Also my dad swears by Blake's Seven but I haven't seen that either sorry. Definitely watch old Doctor Who stuff though, some of it probably hasn't aged well but BBC Radiophonic Workshop music rules

DS9 was a much better show than Voyager. Voyager has terrible writing, boring plots, and a cast of actors I hated from the get-go. Seriously, Janeway? Awful.
DS9, on the other hand, had excellent writing, much better actors (and characters) a much better plot (that made sense and didn't completely ignore previous episodes) and was just an infinitely better show, overall. I didn't like DS9 when it first came on because they weren't in a ship, but after watching it a few years ago I really enjoyed it.
I really enjoyed Enterprise. The first three seasons had a really terrible overarching plot, but the episodes that deviated from it were really solid, and I felt like the acting and writing were good in most instances. They also did some interesting things (like not making nondescript crew members totally worthless) and the fourth season was really good. I just found it to be an enjoyable show, for the most part.
Did anyone mention Stargate: Universe? I was a big fan of SG-1 up until they added Ben Browder, because he was just a shitty knock-off of Richard Dean Anderson, and a lot of the stories started sucking. I really enjoyed Atlantis, although the characters sometimes (too often) made "wtf were they thinking decisions" which is never good. I think it was canceled before it's time. Stargate: Universe is... an OK show. I really want to like it, but overall I don't really think I do. It's very depressing and the characters are constantly making absolutely awful, unrealistic decisions for the sake of artificially increasing the tension. I think they are focusing way too much on trying to copy the super-dramatic BS:G and not enough on the fact that they are on a fukken SPACE ADVENTURE.

Sadly, I am superficial and couldn't get into DS9 because they didn't trek in a ship. Also, I couldn't get past the horrible horrible theme song of Enterprise (but the show itself wasn't half-bad).
