post=200811Fixed. But seriously, play it on the console or a legal port if you want to brag about a speed run. It especially doesn't count if you used an infinite ammo cheat. I don't care if you played on hard.
it doesnt count if you used an emulator that has save states to beat it

Who says I did? Was no cheats, not, pirated, actual PC Version. Had to beat Mercenaries like 6 times just to get the $2000 for it.
First time i beat it was 6 hours.

I don't speed run. But that doesn't me I can't complain when a person does one dishonestly. Infinite ammo cheats are not for honest speed runs.

If its available in game, its a BONUS FEATURE. if it comes from outside the game (external source) then its a cheat code.

I don't see a problem with that, frankly. That's like saying "I did a speedrun of Banjo Kazooie/Tooie and used the double feathers and eggs cheats! I SUCK AT THIS"

yeah, there is no rule anywhere that says speed runs have to be done without cheating of any kind. thats just a persons opinion.
exactly. being able to get that stuff in game isnt cheating. the game makes you work for it and trust me, RE3 Mercenaries is freakin stupid and long b/c only one character has good stuff and the others have crap. cheaters get that sort of thing wthout having to work for it.

Last time I checked, cheating was when you broke the rules of a game. If the developers included and infinite ammo option, or a "no damage from falls" or something, it is not a cheat.
More on topic, I don't really do speedruns myself. I do challenges sometimes, like 3 heart runs in Zelda, or Nuzlocke in Pokemon. The closest I come is trying to beat my time or something, in RPG's mainly.

It's already hard enough to do a speed run..
I think it makes more sense to look down upon someone who uses outside cheats rather than the bonus cheats provided by the MAKER of the game.
Anyways, most videogame speedruns are only possible through glitches and/or emulator save states and speed adjustments

Maybe my mind's getting speed run confused with challenges. But still, speed runs should be done honestly.

yeah, i do that some times. i forgot about doing game challenges. who started the pokemon nuzlocke challenge anyways? i never heard of it.
Lennon, most people aren't going to take a speedrun seriously if done with cheats. I used to mess around with the speedrun 'community' and yeah, they expect you to beat the game without any cheating, in game or otherwise.
Hell, some GAMES punish you if you use cheats. Isn't there something in the GTA series that prevents you from getting 100% if you use cheats?
