DO I HAVE MAP MAKING SKILLS?

Can I make decnt maps? or am I just fooling myself? I do try hard and stay away from the RTP as much as I can. (if i've done something wrong, sorry, still new)

...yeah...6 screen shots, but hopefully you get the idea, i'll upload more if needs be, I just think I could do with some pointers/ help / tips.
well i think those look pretty good. better than what i can make lol.
They are very good! If anything is wrong, then it's your aversion to RTP. Nothing wrong with RTP.
Yeah, these are wonderful maps. kentona is right though... RTP is great too and can also make good maps. Just curious, but what maker is this for?
I love these maps. If they are for a game (not just maps drawn up to show us) then I think you need to make a games page right now (if you already haven't). I would download this game pretty quick.
Those are very nice maps you have there. You do have map making skills.
I see a combination of Seiken 3 rips and other graphics I don't recognize... out of curiosity, is there original content here? :D. If so, then I want to congratulate you. If not, please tell me; I'd like to know where you get your resources....

But in reference to the topic at hand, these look just fine. I only see a few problems here and there...

In the first one, you have shadows at the left side of the house. Even if your light source was coming from the right, you wouldn't have shadows on the left like that- the roof doesn't jut out, and there's nothing there to create a shadow.

Nothing wrong with the second one.

Third one, the fence is on top of water.. and the house wall seems to disappear in the center, which it really can't do if there's a roof right there. Even if you want it to have two separate houses that share a sort of jointed roof, you need enough space to make it clear that's what you're doing.

Fourth one; looks great. The stairs look a little steep, though. Maybe have them go a tile or two further down.

Five; stacked barrels look unnatural, you're better off editing your own stacked barrels into the chipset. You could do the same thing with the bridge, although it looks nice as-is. Nice way to be resourceful!

Six: Looks just fine.

Thanks for sharing, these are all very pretty and I think your game/whatever projects you contribute to will be well-mapped. And don't worry about everything I said, I am a bit of a nit-picker when it comes to graphics. I'd call this a job well done, there's no horrendous mistakes and overall it looks very streamlined.
You know what you are doing. The screens look well designed and appealing.
They will look nice if you plan to make a game using them.
Wouldn't he be making a game though if he made those maps?

Unless his designing them for fun.
Thank you very much everyone! Your comments go right to my head, like the hungry egotisic monster I am xD... To answer your questions -

1) These screenshots are from my very first (currently in production) game called Collison Of Villnoire.

2) I use RPG maker 2003 (and those are where my screenshots are from)

3) I'm going to makes a Game page today, I tried yesterday but my screenshots were not accepted, but I know why.

4) I dabble in creating/ ripping/ editing my own resources but i'm not brillant at it, I certainly didn't make any of those xD I get my resources from a varity of diffferent sites, some of which I can't remember right now...I have a huge bunch of them on my PC, since this site is a little lacking (take no offence) from what i've seen, i'll happily upload them all (crediting all the right people).

5) There really is nothing wrong with the RTP and I do use it now and then, its just because its heavily used now-a-days that I stay away from it :-\

Komodo Gallant, I love it when people nit pick, it means there being honest, I took your ideas in to account and i'll edit the maps, when I can be bothered xD

Thanks again, check out my page at some point if your interested, i'll upload a demo ASAP but its not ready yet.
They are good, but I can see some areas where you can improve.

1st screen: On some of the corners of the lake it looks like there is a tile missing. Other than that it looks pretty good!

2nd: I think the map looks a little to empty. Try making the room smaller so it does not seem as large. Also, the bed seems really big for that Charset.

3rd: The main thing that I am seeing here is the top of this screen. It looks like it is supposed to be a cliff, but it is too straight. Try making it curvy. Also, maybe try adding some height variations on the map itself, if it is like a mountain village or something.

4th: Nothing that I can really spot, looks good!

5th: First of all a little error that I spotted. One of the barrels on the top are overlapping wrong. For the map itself, it seems a little empty. Try adding some more grass variety, and some trees. The cliffs are o.k, but can maybe use a little more variety in hight difference and make them not so straight. And also put things at the top of the cliff, it looks really bare up there.

6th: I don't see a lot wrong with the map itself, but I don't think the charsets you have on it fit super well. Just a little nitpick, nothing major at all. And also on of the boxes on the left are overlapping the wall.

Overall, these are very good, but with some improvements they can be much better. Another thing to make sure you do (and I am sure you will, just adding this in here) is to populate your maps with people and animals and such. Good job!
I must say that those are excellent maps.
yea man... The Skills Are With You ;D
Dude, that last screen shot is a total rip off of FFIII (VI). You didn't even move things around, it looks like a screenshot. I would assume that the other nice looking ones (i.e., non-rtp) are the same as well, but I could be wrong.

EDIT: I don't mean to sound like a jerk, it's just that copying a scene from another game doesn't say squat about your ability create original maps. The others do look nice and, assuming that they are NOT total copies of other games, you seem to have a good grasp on map layouts.

Don't worry, you don't sound like a jerk, I'm one of those annoying people whose spirits can't be killed XD… I'm flattered that you could think that my maps could be anything like FF6...even if you don't mean it that way, that's how I'm taking it…no one can take this proud moment away from me...*hiss*

Anyways, I'm actually glad you pointed it out, if you thought that then imagine how much hate mail I would get from FF6 fans that played it. I do have FF6 (Haven't played it for a good three years) which is why I chose to use that chipset, because I love it. I needed an Army Base of some sort and outta all the ones I found this looked/ fit the best. I can honestly say I didn't copy the map (hopefully my word is good enough for you) , but I can easily see how you would think so. I'm editing the Map as I type this, to make it look more unique and not copied, the magi-tech suits are gone, but the chipset doesn't have a lot of variety but I'll do my best XD. But I won't keep editing maps I worked hard on if I keep getting this, It was an honest mistake :P

Oh, and I haven't copied any of the other maps, I have way more fun being creative and doing my own, they are all rips from tons of different games (Most of which I have never played) and if you use rips, your bound to copy something from someone game at some point. so any other similaries are completely unintentional and, quite frankly, creepy.
