If you make a page, give a description, a link, and 25-30 tropes minimum. If you can't think of that many, why are you making a page for this game? If you can't think of enough tropes to make an appealing, interesting page, the game probably shouldn't have a page, or at least you shouldn't be the one making it.

Hi.

1) Balmung was made by MOG, not I, for somebody else to start adding to. I set up the description and tropes area so that it'd be easier for people that haven't spent as much time on TVTropes. I mean, plenty of people have played it, right? Rudras + faceset limit break system?
2) I will add to Ara Fell soon (today), but unfortunately I cannot base my life solely on the act of adding tropes to pages immediately after creating them.
3) This topic needed somebody doing something, so I did something so that it wasn't a complete and utter failure and to try to get other people jumping onboard. Sorry for fucking trying to make this work in the slightest.
Apology accepted.

Anywho, what I've found when I've tried to get this community to do anything constructive is to lead by example. Do it yourself and others will follow. Or not. But in either case it gets done.

You need a lot of moxy and followthrough to accomplish anything, though.

And this philosophy goes for ANYTHING, not just this TVTropes push. Reviews, Articles, Tutorials, events, community games, blogs, using VX over 2k3, commenting, posting, discussion, podcasts, misao voting, etc...

Even this only works sometimes, most people on the Internet are lazy.
I am like the epitome of lazy. I'd give you some examples, but...eh..

The sooner we realize that, and the general idea behind it, I think our games will be a lot better off, honestly.
Now this is where I partly venture off from your road. While I agree that publicity from TVTropes is a good thing, I'm finding myself difficult to agree with the now-two-topics worth of encouragement to "trope it up".

That's why I said 'the general idea behind it'. I'm not throwing all my weight behind TVTropes specifically like its some sort of savior or anything; it isn't. I'm just saying that the general idea behind it, banding together as a community for some higher purpose instead of retreating into our little enclaves to work on games that might not ever see the light of day (seriously, the reasoning 'I just want to work on my game' would carry a lot more weight if most people actually fucking released one). I dunno it just seems like the community talks about the same things, complains about the same problems, and expects different results for doing the same thing and nothing happens.

I'm definitely not trying to force or guilt anyone into participating, merely help out and hope people realize that it may be a good idea to do this or other community related things.

As for why fans don't do it themselves? Yeah, that's a good point, but I figured that maybe some people just didn't connect the dots or something, I don't know. Alls I'm trying to do is a little push.

I believe no one went down that line of assumption, actually. TVTropes is an awesome place, but it's not the end-all-be-all.

Perhaps what you're striving for here is more along the lines of a community-produced game rather than a community appreciation of games already made? While I'm one of the opinion the games deserve more publicity, it sounds like you want publicity more for RMN than the games themselves whilst using the games as a catalyst?

Not at all; I'm doing this strictly for the games; which is why I even suggested that pages can be made for amateur games that aren't even for RMN. Community games are nice; but there are already plenty of efforts and people on that end. You were right the first time; I'm striving for community appreciation of games that are already made.

Actually, I'm going beyond that; I'm striving for appreciation, period of amateur games already made. You guys know that people outside our little enclave are more than willing to play our games if they're good, and games like Exit Fate and Hero's Realm are proof of that. We don't have to beat each other off for appreciation, which is why I suggested TVTropes, one of the most popular sites on the web for media. Right?

Right?

Personally, I don't view fans appreciating games and the RMN community banding together as anything close to being related. I ended up being confused as a result since your wording seemed at times to suggest both or even the latter, rather than the former. Oh well.

The above and the effectiveness of this idea aside, I'm definitely in agreement that fans should (and they will!) show appreciation for games they loved if they have the time to contribute. Generally speaking, good amateur games can use more publicity.

The RMN community banding together to improve visibility of each others games so fans can appreciate them. As simple as that.
If you don't think it is a good idea, don't participate. If you do think it is a good idea, get your shit together and do it. If you don't care one way or another, go back to your regular doldrums.

Why the hell is this even being debated like this? you know what don't answer that. it'll just spark more pointless "discussion"
Any new takers/thoughts on this?

I'm about to organize up some new tropes myself.

Maybe we should select one game at a time for everyone to add tropes to and keep it open until it's reached a certain number, that way we have more coordination instead of leaving everyone to figure out what to do.
As someone who keeps going to TV Tropes like someone who keeps forgetting what candy corn tastes like, I can tell you that everything you read on Encyclopedia Dramatica is completely goddamned true. Just putting something on there is just asking for a bunch of positive-ass weiners to egregiously post tropes that don't goddamn belong there, but forcing people to come up with tropes is a horrible idea that's just going to speed up the process. People are going to be grasping at straws to meet this trope quota, and then everything will quickly degrade into every which way retarded. "Two male characters are friends? HO YAY! There's a Wilhelm Scream wav and a png of a Halloween mask? NIGHTMARE FUEL! Someone said something mean?! COMPLETE MONSTER!"

But exactly one person might disagree, so your mileage may vary.

I am very much in favor of such an effort. As I am frequently sucked into the endless loop of wasting time that is TVTropes, it would be an even better use of my time to see some RPGmaker games up there.
I'd like to see some Encyclopedia Dramatica RMN entries too. :P
