RPG MAKER VX PROBLEMS CREATING A KILL X AMOUNT QUEST

I'm having trouble creating a kill x amount quest using requiem abs.
What I want to do is create a quest given by a npc were i have to kill 3 enemys and then speak to the npc to progress the quest.
I tried placing a Die Variable in enemy notes. I tried placing a Control Variable in enemy event command list. I tried a few more things until I got so frustrated that throwing my laptop out of the window became a serious option.
I'm pretty sure the npc who gives the quest is setup correctly (Variable 3 or above switches to event page that completes quest).
I have read many tutorials on how to do this and deleted and recreated npc and enemy events just incase I went wrong somewhere along the way but nothing has worked. A large chunk of yesterday was taken up trying create this quest and asking for help seems like my last hope.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If any more details are needed please let me know. Thanks for reading.
Here is a link to some screenshots of how I have everything setup;
