BARKLEY SHUT UP AND JAM: GAIDEN BATTLE SYSTEM

Are there any other games with this sort of battle system? Of course not the exact same thing, but each character has their multiple attacks and such and its not just spamming attack/special attacks. I was wondering if there were any games that tried to mimic this idea, and if there aren't...why aren't there? Obviously the game was very popular even though it was just a parody, someone could use a similar type battle system but with a more serious story and I'm sure it would be received well.
you should probably start by playing some commercial RPGS, since thats where the ideas that they're apeing are originally from
the attack / skill spamming is a problem particular to RPG maker games

I enjoyed Barkley's battle system, even after all the ridiculous heavy takes-itself-seriously jokes got old. It reminded me of the battle style used in the Mario RPGs, and it's the kind I'd like to emulate myself at some point.
I don't know of any like that on this site, but I'd like to see more of them.

Wasn't the game made in Gamemaker? That would've given them more flexibility to make a specialized battle system (for the time). Though I'm sure VX can probably be made to work that way now.
I think it started in RPG Maker and was switched to Game Maker partway through (or some other platform).
hello. barkley was made in gm(gamemaker). originally it was rpgmaker2003, which was pretty clunky. gz worked very hard on constructing such a complex "d.a.p.p." system. barkley used several types of different sub attacks. a lot of sir charles barkley's supers consisted of holding space bar at the right time, while "cyber dwarf" implemented a button pushing sequence to do various combo moves.
i am sure all of this stuff can be emulated to a lesser technical extent in vx or xp(garbage).
if barkley interested you, allow me to direct you to:
