I'm trying to create a FFT knockoff, grid based tactical RPG, with my own art;

I have no clue where to begin.

Any help would be greately appreciated.
Have you decided what maker you want to use? Narrowing it down, either XP or VX is best.
Have you ever made a game before? Do you know how they work(events, switches, variables...)?

It's gonna be a lot of work, especially if it's your first game. You'll need something unique, it's one thing to make a game but the goal is to make a game people will want to play. Don't aim to make just another FFtactics clone.

Whatever engine you use, try and find other games that use that kind of system(you wouldn't be the first with this idea) and see how they do it.
As a heads up for any topics you create in the future, the more detail you give us, the better. All of us have our own unique skillsets and we can help you out better if we know the details. Also, when you are looking for help like this, the Help & Requests forum is the appropriate forum for these topics. Not only will you lower the risk of being ridiculed, but you'll probably get more responses, haha.

Link's advice is pretty legit and it is stuff you generally wanna mull over before taking on a project or requesting help.
Tactical RPGs are insanely hard to make (well) compared to everything else. Just do a normal RPG with a simple yet different battle system or something. You should brush up on the functional programming paradigm if you do want to do something like this though, it'll help you easily write movement/collision and AI algorithms for a grid system.
