If you were to submit a project for which screenshots would be completely meaningless (such as, for instance, a piece of Interactive Fiction (or if you prefer, a text adventure)), do you still have to submit three/any screenshots? Or could a special arrangement be worked out with staff? Especially since "you" in this case is really "me" and there is demonstrable proof apart from screenshots of the likelihood that any project I submit is an actual game and not, say, a virus.

Taking screenshots of plain text seems absurd, and I'd rather not have to do anything ridiculous and silly that I don't have to do. The reason this isn't just a PM is because I figured this was a valid question that could be relevant to other people in the coming year.

tl;dr do games without graphics need screenshots?

Sorry if this has been asked elsewhere.
My two cents: I'd like screenshots of a text-based game so that it was very clear the game I was about to download was a text-based game..

People may not want to play a text-based game and screenshots of it therefore would show people who didn't want to play it that they should steer clear.
it takes 3 screenshots before the game even appears in the submission queue. (This is more a technical answer than a philosophical one, but there it is)

@NewBlack:

"Ewwwwwww! Worrrrdddssss! Grossssssssss!" : P

Anyway the absence of screenshots would be a pretty clear indicator.

@Kentona:

I was actually aware of that. It's not actually a very important issue, the only other IF game I can think of on RM is Hexatona's RetroFatale anyway. Still seems stupid to screenshot plain black text on a white background.
I find black text on white backgrounds to be incredibly interesting. :(

On a serious note, at the very least it will give potential players a sample of the writing, so they know it's not written by a kindergartner.
100% better than white text on a black background
just take 3 screenshots of the text game and say it is a text game its not really that "absurd"

unless your game has been denied already this all seems pretty pointless
it it's a horror-themed game then white text on a black background is far superior.

@MaxMcgee

I don't mind text-based games at all! But seeing as rmn hosts different types of games it'd still be nice to know what kind of game it was via images beforehand.
