LATEST SCREENSHOTS IN BATCHES
Posts
Would it be at all possible to maybe modify "Latest Screenshots" to only display one screenshot per project? Perhaps a thumbnail of one of the new screenshots from a certain project, and then alt text that tells you how many were submitted for the game recently. This way when a project puts up 6 screenshots or so, they don't hog the entire front page.
No idea how hard or possible this would be to implement or anything.

It isn't crazy hard. The problems are more that it's a much heavier hit on the database than what is currently there. But what's currently there also sucks, so I'm not sure!
I don't really see it as a problem.
Latest Images is a very fleeting thing, why worry about hogging space on the frontpage for maybe a day.

So more games get exposure?

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Lol, no one cares about the latest screenshots, just remove them from the front page.
In fact, if everything below "Latest Games to Play" were removed I don't think we would be any worse off for it.

What if just an extra page is created to display the last 20+ screens or something? I've noticed that if you click in "latest blogs" you're taken to a page that lists all the blogs on the site, but clicking in "latest images" takes you virtually nowhere, it's a link to the frontpage! That's just silly.
author=LockeZI disagree! Everything below Latest Games is what I am most interested in!

As for a possible "solution" - I think that there should be a page that shows all of the latest images in chronological order. Sure, show the most recent 6 on the frontpage, but like the latest blogs, also have a page that lists all of the screenshots that you can view.
Right now the hyperlink behind the Latest Images heading is simply pointing to the RMN homepage.
EDIT:
welp. what alterego said.

Oh, I look at screenshots and blogs for games... after I visit the game page. I'm not going to look at them for random games though, no more than I would click and read the "last ten posts by all users" on Facebook if they put that info on their front page. The game has to draw me in enough to be interested in it first, generally by someone linking to it or talking about it from somewhere else.

What's lol about that, 0__o'? I also disagree with this, I always check new interesting screenshots from the front page (more than blogs anyway).

This, on the other hand, is a good idea.
LockeZ, please be quiet until you decide to use a game design community/hosting site as anything except a place to spam links to your shitty MUD.
Thanks.
Thanks.
I still believe the front page to be the most valuable thing RMN has to offer. It shouldn't be compromised. A list of the latest screenshots in descending order would be awesome and a step forward, but to make full use of that front-page real estate would be best.

Sorry if you don't like me mentioning an amateur RPG I am helping to design and expand, once every month or two, on this website designed for creating and advertising amateur RPGs. But I only ever mention it when it's relevant to a topic someone else creates. I'm not here for any reason except to brainstorm and debate about game design.
My suggestions about the front page were tongue in cheek, by the way. I don't even visit the front page. My RMN bookmark goes straight to the forums.
You mentioned it multiple times last month, it's annoying every time, and your attempts to play devil's advocate/boss bitch rarely make sense.

Well, you mentioned Visions and Voices multiple times last month, so what's the problem? Sorry if MUDs just annoy you, I'll try to tone it down I guess. I'm still not sure what it has to do with this topic or with anything I said in it.
I am developing it and posting about my progress in the applicable topics and I don't link to it and

Your MUD is not an Amateur RPG, it is just Amateur.
Directly copying from other games into one giant puke pile is not a game.
Sorry, it sounds harsh, and I don't normally approve of giving criticism in that format, but it's so overwhelmingly not well-done I can't think of how else to explain it.

Well, I am developing UOSSMUD, it's not like I'm plugging a dead or finished project, development is ongoing and I'm here in large part to look for ways to make that game better. And also, you don't have to link to V&V because it has a game page. Should I make a game page for my MUD? I didn't think it was appropriate since it's (obviously) created in a hugely different type of engine, so I thought linking to it occasionally on the forums would be far less intrusive.
For the record, I mentioned it Feb 21 in a topic about blue magic, Jan 28 in a topic about Final Fantasy fangames, and Jan 6 in a topic where someone asked everyone to spam links to their favorite online games. The last one before that was October 2010, where I just referred to it as "the online RPG I help run", but someone responded and asked me its name (which I took as a sign that people around here might be interested in that sort of game, but I guess you're clearly not).
(Also also, I am actually making an RMXP game. I even started a game page a few days ago, after multiple people told me I should.)
Versalia's opinion is duly noted, I suppose.
