If you find a topic unnecessary and pointless, making a post in that thread is an unnecessary and pointless waste of your time/life

Since apparently this isn't a forum of game developers but rather of anti-discussion jerks, I have written up discussion examples for several topics you might want to explore based on the original post. (At least Magi was funny.)

Whether something is canon: "I don't think that Setzer should get Midgardsormr. You get it in Umaro's location, so you should give it to Mog since Umaro can't equip Espers."
(Wo)Balance: "Woah, Terra is incredibly overpowered, and learns Firaga naturally. Who else could Valigarmanda go to?"
Class design: "Shadow sounds pretty awesome! I should really try out status effect skills more in my own projects."
Relic suggestions: "In my opinion, Mog should always have Dragoon Boots on. He's adorable and more powerful with them, especially if you train him on Bismarck!"

Guys, I want to mix things up using the game's systems, not blatantly ignore major parts of the game (Espers and party collection for NM and CES runs). What is so bad about focusing characters instead of making a ton of uberdudes? That's dull.

I think that because I play games to have fun and play around instead of make The Absolute Best, I ultimately enjoy a game more. Yeah, you can get Economizers and Gem Boxes or whatever all you want... I'll build my actual characters with specific uses for more of a challenge, but not ridiculously so.

<RMN> FFII is a horrible game, you can hit yourself on the head for lots of HP
<Craze> Then... don't hit yourself on the head
<RMN> Shut the fuck up, shithead
Incidentally, I loved that you made backstories for your party in Generica.

(Sadly, though, I am an The Absolute Best type of player)
yes i think you do have a good grasp of what is "dull" and what is "exciting." 'rmn troll team division beta' move out

p.sss. no matter how hard you try to force bizarre roleplaying rules and artificial difficulty in the most lighthanded way ff6 is still a game you can win using just the attack button
You're right, I apologize. But I haven't put enough thought into the subject to have any real discussion relating to it.

You can discuss, say, classes in general, ways to improve the FF6-8/12 "anybody is anything" problem (FF5 technically is like this, but it's a lot harder to master a job than an Esper, and FF10 in my experience never got to the "anybody is anything" point).

I enjoyed reading it as well. Come to think of it, I suppose I do a lot of similar things in games I play -- though I do so passively. I've certainly never taken the time to commit it to writing like that! I typically try to ensure the characters I am building are "canon" in the sense that they fit within the established guidelines of the game. In Dragon Age: Origins, for example, I only chose class specializations that match the character's history and personality if at all possible. This was often done at the expense of more powerful class builds. Wouldn't have made much sense for my heroic noble Warden to also be a reaver who tapped into Avernus' research. Though I suppose that didn't stop him from pursuing Morrigan...

As far as Final Fantasy VI is concerned, however, I beat the game as a kid and spent too much of my time grinding in the dinosaur forest or whatever and getting everyone to Lv. 99 with all spells learned from Espers. I definitely couldn't handle that these days.

I did similar things in DA:O, holb. Morrigan doesn't learn any healing - even though on my first playthrough she was the only mage I ever used.

I normally don't, uh, write stuff out this much, but I have two reasons:

1) I design games anyway; it's fun to try it with limitations, sometimes
2) FF6-8 and 12 bother me with how there isn't much stopping you from making identical powerhouses. People enjoy that, yeah, but I find games more interesting when each character has a specific role. To that end, I do usually map out characters - Red XIII is a red mage, Ashe is going to take tanking, low White Magick and sword licenses, etc.
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

And people thought competitive Pokemon was OTT

Oh my God, I just had the best idea ever

FF6 Nuzlocke run

GO
I think it can be fun to do challenges like this when playing a game again. The last time I played Final Fantasy VI I did a CES run with no espers.
Now that I have FF6 Pandora's Box edition on my phone's SNES emulator, I think I am going to give this FF6 guide a shot! Also, I want to try to make a Whirlwind Gau...

EDIT:
wow. I just noticed now the FIGARO joke in the topic's title.

Sorry, I misremembered. It was "Wind God" Gau

Wind God Gau

In the SNES release, a popular setup involving Gau is to equip him with the Merit Award, the Offering, and a Tempest, which randomly casts Wind Slash on hit, and then use the Stray Cat Rage. The result is Gau attacking four times, randomly using Wind Slash which would have a high boost in power by the effects of the Stray Cat's "Catscratch" attack. This combo proved so powerful that in all releases after the SNES version, Gau is prohibited from equipping the Merit Award. Gogo would later follow suit in the Advance release, having lower stats than Gau, but able to use the same combination.
I might actually try this out for next time I play FF6.

Of course, one time I tried something similar with FF7 and Materia and it didn't last very long...
Wait, Lenophis finally released the full Pandora's Box? The last version I heard was still WoB only

Naw, I don't think so... The dude at the start said it was a demo still.
Dudesoft
always a dudesoft, never a soft dude.

I assign everything to Umaro or whoever and let the other two characters die.
I thought you couldn't equip an Esper to Umaro?
