STORY IDEA

Is it ok to ask if a story idea sounds good on this forum? I wasn't really sure and I wanted to see what people thought about the story idea I had for my RPG.
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Sure, go ahead. A lot of the recent topics are about mechanics, but plot, character, setting and roleplaying topics are welcome too.
Oh ok cool thx.
Anyways I was just wondering what people thought about a plot like this.
The game takes place 1,000 years in the future. The world has become shrouded in fog and people have been greatly affected by this fog. Plus large regions have sunk leaving nothing left. You play as a mercenary in a group of mercenaries, who through a series of personal events becomes involved in these events. He is tasked with the job of finding out how this fog affects people and how to prevent the remaining lands from sinking. I wanted to also add a dialogue system where you have multiple options of stuff to say during a lot of conversations, and multiple endings depending on your choices during the game.

Well, that sounds pretty simplistic. (perhaps explain it in greater detail?)
Like, where did the mercenaries come from, how do the mercenaries survive the fog? It sounds potentially cool as is, but I figured you'd have more to say.

I can't help but say that it reminds me of Persona 4 (the fog, the many dialogue options and the multiple endings). Still, it's a decent concept for a game.
Won't people just see how the fog affects them? For example, if the fog comes and the rate of homicide triples, you will notice that the fog causes people to commit homicide. Or has the fog been there long enough so that people no longer know how things were without the fog around?
Oh ok. I might not have explained it well enough. Well first of all there are many people still alive the group of mercenaries aren't the only survivors. Also it takes place in a kind of apocalyptic sort of future of the Earth. No one remembers what happened or why it is like this. I was thinking of making a lot of the towns named after actual cities too. If anyone wants to hear anymore details just ask. Also even though it takes place in the future on Earth, much technology has been lost and most of the characters fight with basic rpg weapons.
Also lol didn't think of the similarities it had to P4. That game is definently one of my favorite RPGs ever. I wasnt really thinking of making it like P4 though cuz it doesn't take place in current times.
Edit: Also the fog doesn't kill people. It just affects their health, and in some cases gives them strange side effects.

Hmm, what it actually made me think of was Wild ARMs 3. Where the world has been reduced to a desert wasteland, with very little plant life, and the oceans have been replaced by sand. And no one remembers why it's like that, but they don't really find it weird, they're used to living like that. But then at the end of the game, you find out that
The lost technology thing seems overdone, but if it's actually set on Earth as opposed to a generic fantasy world, then I think it would be a lot more interesting. You could have the characters discover the lost ruins of an ancient civilization... and in it they'd uncover the crumbling remains of a pizza diner or a laundromat or something. And it's a solid excuse for having swords and guns in the same game, in any case.
What's the initial goal of the mercenaries, before they get tangled in this web? Who hires them, and to do what?
it's only been that way for 15 years, and a demon has stolen the memories of everyone on the planet to make them not remember what it used to be like.

Well at first they're just working on regular jobs but after a crisis in the world occurs their leader, a former knight, is hired by them to help them deal with it. I'd say more but I don't wanna give away what the crisis is and why it's happening. Also yeah I was planning to put in some resemblance of ancient culture and stuff from the modern world that doesn't work anymore in their time. I was hoping to much content as I possibly can into the game.
