What is the theme? Or we will only find out on the day of the contest?
There will be a theme for the contest that will be revealed at midnight on June 2nd, 2011.
It's all in the first post.
Ah, a theme. Somehow I missed that.
There goes my Fire Emblem 6 fangame remake.
Unless the theme is "Fire Emblem!!"
Edit : BTW, what can we expect from "theme"? Is it going to be fairly harmless like "have ___ and a ___ in it" or totally direction-changing like "Wild West"?

What? I thought the contest had already started... Oh well, I have to work on june 3rd, so I'll post my just finished four hour entry as a normal game I guess... Darn, and I spent so much effort on it as well...

It was only 4 hours jeez
Its a ton of time if you work non stop during every second of it. I finished it with 19 seconds to spare too.

Just upload it to rmn, enjoy being a member of completed game club and write in the blurb explaining that it was made within a 4 hour time-constraint. :)
So who else is ready for this? Anyone have a gameplan or set of strategies in place? Are we going to use IRC as "war rooms" for our ideas and progress? Hopefully we get 10+ games out of this!
It would also be really cool if people document their progress and thought process in a blog entry. Maybe we can have a small side-prize or achievement for best blog!

I'll decide what to do once I see the theme. It's possible I won't have any free time this Friday. We'll see.
Yeah, my strategy is to go on instinct too - that usually leads to games more reflective of the theme. All I know is that I'm making an RPG with some sort of battle system gimmick, and I'll aim for 20 minutes playtime.
I have a couple system ideas I'd love to try and make, but I need to know whether they'll fit the theme or not yet. If not I'll just riff off the theme until an idea just pops into existence :P
I'd love to see more contests or game drives. Stuff like 24-hour contests, joint story RPGs...maybe even minigame chains!

I agree. I have so many small project ideas swimming around in my head, I just need an excuse to make them!
Yeah, this sounds great. And also good that there are no special engines which have to be used. Now I'll just check the timezone.
Ah okay, in "my" timezone the contest is going to beginn two hours later. (16:45 o'clock in germany at this moment)^^
