FONT CHANGING PATCH.

Posts

I feel a bit silly for asking this, but I need help regarding the font changing patch that's listed in the sticky topic. It's in German, which I can't read, so I'm hoping to get some instructions.

I've already tried working through it anyway, but it's clear it's not going to work. Hopefully someone can help me :P

I'm using RPGMaker2k3, by the way.

Are you using RPG Maker 2000 or RPG Maker 2k3?
(Please, always remember to post what engine/maker you are using when you are requesting help.)

Also, if it's 2000, please link your RPG_RT.EXE here so that I can test the font changer for you with the version I have. Thanks.
DL'ed an RPM2k game and played with it, sorry, my tired is to blame for that. Are you receiving an error such as the following:

"Run Time Package nicht gefunden. Bitte RTP installieren."
(If you are it's telling you that the Run Time Package is not found and you need to install the RTP; although, why it's telling you that, I'm not sure. You can only use RM2k with the RTP installed anyways...)

Or:

"Font's wurden erfolgreich ausgetauscht! Spiel jetzt testen?"
If you're getting this one, then it's telling you the font has been added correctly and asking you if you want to run the game and test it.

Now, when I try this, I don't get anything to work correctly; going to look further for you! :)
Sorry about that. I'm using RPGMaker2k3. Thank you for responding. :)

NP! Sorry about the miss-print up there, asked for your rpg_rt.exe before realizing I can just DL any game to try this with.XD

EDIT:
OK, found a post that's really old here on RMN; someone else had difficulties getting this to work so Magi provided some assistance for that person by explaining how it's suppose to work:

I still couldn't get it to work, try un-zipping this and placing them in your fonts directory; read some where that out-dated rm2000 fonts can cause this issue too.

Are you talking about the "RM2k Font Patch"? It's not a font changer for the game, but for the editor.

@Quaesy: I made the Font Changer you are talking about. Give me the font files you want to use and your rpg_rt.exe, and I'll patch your rpg_rt.exe and also install the automatic font installer, so the player doesn't have to install the font himself.
Oh, sorry, I was wrong. But I think, Quaesy doesn't want to correct anything (the font patch would install the default font), but rather use his own font.
@kitten: Thanks. I actually found the program through that topic and I tried your solution; it didn't work. :(

@Cherry: You're right, I do want to use my own font. However, I haven't really decided on a font yet, so a write up for how to use the program so I could test a variety myself would be great. :P

However, I'm glad to have any help at all, so here are the links:
Manaspace: http://www.zone38.net/font/

And how does switching fonts impact the use of RMText to prevent clipping issues with speech bubbles?

Thank you for your help, by the way. :)
It has no effect on RMText.

Okay, all you have to do is open your rpg_rt.exe in the Font Changer, and change the fonts. You have to enter the full name of the font (the name you see in the "font name" column in the windows\fonts folder, excluding the "(TrueType)"/"(OpenType)" part). You can click "Test" to see how this font looks in a game, but this only works when the RM2k RTP is installed. To apply the changes, click "Übernehmen".

Okay, but there are two problems.
Firstly, the font name must not exceed 14 characters for the first font or 10 characters for the second font. Otherwise, it just won't work.
Secondly, TrueType fonts (*.ttf) won't work (in most cases, at least), because when font anti-aliasing is activated (it is, by default), the font will become unreadably bold. You need to use bitmap fonts (*.fon)

Unfortunately, the Manaspace fonts has both problems: Its name ("Manaspace Regular") is 17 characters long, and it's a TrueType font. Thus, you simply can't use it.

Please look at this post, there is a list of 18 very nice (and working!) fonts.

If you don't want the player to have to install the font on his PC himself, you can use AutoFontInstall. This is how AutoFontInstall works: Rename your rpg_rt.exe to old_rpg_rt.exe, then copy AutoFontInstall's rpg_rt.exe into your project. Then, copy the font file into your project and create a file called "fonts.cfg" and write the font's filename into it.
Alright, I have it working now. The only problem ATM is that some fonts, such as Kefkaesque and two word fonts like Lost Woods, don't display properly ( http://imgur.com/fJ4eP ). Some fonts like RedTurnip are fixed when I remove the spaces. What can I do to fix that?

And thank you very much, Cherry. Your work is amazing. :)
Hmm, I don't know... Maybe they are TrueType fonts. I must admit that I found that font package somewhere else on the internet (at a foreign RM site), and I only tested a few of those fonts.
