DANGERS TO PASTING RESOURCES DIRECTLY INTO FOLDERS?

So I have a lot of pictures I need to import. I tried using the mass importing program, but it caused a lot of color loss even though the files can be imported into Rpgmaker2k3 without it. I can't think of any other ways to mass import these files besides just pasting them into the folder, so I'm wondering if there are any dangers to doing that. I remember reading that it might cause some problems in the future, but I just want to make sure.
There are no dangers. The "Don't copy resources, it'll trash your project" thing is a myth.

However, make sure the images' color depth is 8 bit (256 colors), not 24 bit! Otherwise you'll get an "Invalid PNG image" message and the game will close.
I think if you copy-paste pictures to the rm2k3 folder, they won't have transparency.

I think if you copy-paste pictures to the rm2k3 folder, they won't have transparency.

They'll treat the first colour in the 256 colour palette as transparent so long as you set it to "Use transparent colour" in the "show picture" dialogue box. Pretty sure of that anyway.

Edit: Also, never, ever, EVER paste resources into the RTP's resource folders, unless you want to deal with a nightmare when it comes to actually sorting out a demo/game release.

danger you might die
Yes - if you "copy" 1,000 pictures by creating new image files and redrawing them pixel by pixel, and all that without eating.

There is nothing ridiculous about Quaesy's post! O_o
In the past, I often heard people saying that if you don't import resources, you would eventually get the "map tree data break" error and all you work would be lost, etc. etc. - This isn't true, but Quaesy might have heard it too and might have been afraid of doing something wrong. There is nothing wrong with ensuring that his project is safe!
The transparent color is always color index 0. For example, IrfanView lets you set the transparent color too.
