So, I just posted my 1000th deviation on deviantArt. I decided to draw each panel with the little improvements that built up over time to where I am now.
Chances are you guys won't really get this page, as it is very esoteric and a lot less meaningful to those who haven't followed my past comics. The focus isn't on a punchline, but on the subtle improvements from panel to panel that culminate in the borderless, full color one at the end.
Also, this isn't my 1000th comic page, because my deviation count includes things like ref sheets, pumpkins, and other retarded stuff. It also does NOT include things like video game screenshots and shit too embarrassing to post normally. But STILL! I've come pretty far since I drew my first page back in 2004. The stuff I'm putting out now is much better, but I know I still have plenty of room for improvement.
I've built up quite a following on dA in all my time there, but honest criticism is hard to come by when everybody just loves what you do so much. But I know you guys wouldn't think twice about tearing me a new one, and I'm sure you wouldn't spare any of the toe-stomping details, either.
So now that you see where I've been and where I am now, does anyone have anything to suggest
Clyve and kentona have helped me come to realize something after posting this; an issue that's afflicted me in every effort I've made to share my works with this community, whatever they may be. And no, it's not that everything I make sucks.
It's that nobody gets it.
But it's not so much that they don't get it, but rather that they won't. By that, I mean there are things people could do to understand the things I make, but they don't do so, and they won't for good reasons. With one's free time, one can pursue any form of entertainment they wish; there are certainly enough of them out there. Even when it comes to free stuff, we're sitting on a website that's bursting with entertainment value that doesn't cost a cent. So why would they bother to read or play something like the stuff I tend to post? There are plenty of more entertaining things to do. I'm outclassed on numerous levels, and I can understand that a lot of what I make just isn't appealing enough.
But I'm getting better. My older works pale in comparison to my newer ones, and I'm sure a great many of you could enjoy them...if you would. But this is where we come back around to my original point: nobody gets it. The trouble with my new, better stuff is that they all have their roots in things that are much worse. Take my comic series, Aidyn Chronicled for example. The new pages are very nice and enjoy the full scale of my improvements:

And of course, how could I ever expect someone to understand page 160 when they haven't read pages 1 through 159? And why would they bother to even read page 1 when it looks like a dump on a piece of loose leaf? The same is more or less true of everything else I'm currently producing. The comics I'm making for STAB would require that PCBCOS be read to be fully understood. Pokémon Hunter 4 would require that the player play PH1-3 to be fully understood. Is it any wonder why everything I try to share falls flat?
I don't want you to think I'm blaming you for this. There's no blame to be placed anywhere here, except perhaps on myself for being so naive. I know why you don't get it, I know why you won't get it, and at this point all I can do is wish I hadn't dug myself in so far.
tl;dr version: people don't get my new stuff because they don't try my old stuff because it sucks. This is nobody's fault; just a simple fact of life.

I remember you posting that Aidyn Chronicles comic before, and you are probably right that few people will understand it because the two of us are the only people in the universe who have played/heard of that game, but that doesn't mean it can't be meaningful or enjoyable, even if only to you.
You've improved a lot. That means something, and even if its not something that other people "understand" it is still an accomplishment and still something to be proud of.
