Actually wait wait, I think I'm getting what you're saying. You can't really take an animated gif and use it as is in RPG Maker.

You'll have to assemble it in a sheet like this (templates below),
or do them by battle animations instead of battle characterset:

You would do that in RPG Maker itself. It's in the animations2 tab. Go to Poses and you would pick which ones you want to set. For battle charactersets, it would go by each row being 3 frames. So, seeing the 2nd row in my green characterset example up there, that would be the run animation. 4th row is dead. They don't have much animation due to the style, but you can have up to 3 frames there.
If you want to make it as battle animations instead, you can have more frames. Just set it up as you would a regular battle animation, and do this for each pose type. So maybe a 4 frame idle animation, a 8 frame attack animation, stuff like that. Then in animations2 tab, go to Animation tab. You can choose a battle animation from that list for each pose then. Of course, this is the more time consuming way, but it has more flexibility too.
