CHIPSET TEMPLATE/ETC?

The closest thing I can find to something I'm looking for is here:
http://resource-exchange.deviantart.com/art/R2K3-Chipset-Template-16641329
But im looking for one thats DIRECTLY editable, and with more colors than just 'pink' so its easier to see which goes with which.
Similar to like, this -> http://ompldr.org/vYWZqMA/Blaankie.png
only sort of like, both of them combined..
Like i just spent 4 hours trying to figure out what the heck the dark green areas meant, and why it was showing up weird... (Paint cant save it correctly, and etc)
Im an RPG maker noob, but I've made stuff on BYOND before.. so its kinda like MEH..
im trying to make a Crystalis chipset (since none exist yet!??)
http://www.spriters-resource.com/nes/crystalis/sheet/701
So far im just doing trial and error to try and find out what goes where and does what.
Thanks for any help ^_^

why is the first one covered in a giant text overlay?
Anywho, I can probably give it a shot at combining them later today...

Cuz thats just a preview.. you gotta download the zip to get both files.

Also, Itd be nice if you could note the tiles that do stuff differently,
Like in this one: http://ompldr.org/vYWZ6Mw/Untitled.png one of the Grey tiles on the left hand side go around the very edges of the orange and brown one I already have there.
Im not sure if theres any other linked tiles like that anywhere..
and im just curious, how the heck are you supposed to know where each thing goes in the first place? o.0 I woulda figured thered be a tutorial/map/etc made early on.

A tutorial would've been handy, that's for sure! I guess people just figure it out on their own, or fumble through it like I do.
so... something like this?

so... something like this?

Ok, yup, like that, Thankies ^___^
buuuttt, like
Can you somehow label like, what specific section is used for what? o.o
Like.. Which square is the transparency for the upper layer, which square is transparency for the lower layer..
and... well the blue is for water, but like, what is the orange/red supposed to be for?
and Yellow is supposed to be... like... Buildings and stuff? Where the Pink is supposed to be transparent objects?
Thankies ^^;

I think you will just have to reference the original chipset(s) in RM2k3 to get an idea for what goes where.
But, as a general rule:
Blue - Water
Red- can't remember! (Lava maybe??)
Green - Auto-tiles
Yellow - lower layer tiles
Pink - upper layer tiles (which can have a color set to be transparent)

Red is the whirpools and stuff, tiles that are animated basically, not really important. Also that's a terrible template because you cannot see the exact edges of the square tiles.

Like kentona said, use the RTP chipsets for reference, it helps more than anything else.

I think something more similar to this:
Buutt Im not sure if that is 100% correct, and still needs explaining better. Perhaps I'll write a guide when I've figured it out.

That's a pretty detailed template : maybe(?) for the blue red and green parts, it would be sufficient for a beginner, what I find really tricky is where to place the objects or/and how much space up, down and on each side you're supposed to leave around them(and why), yes a guide would be really interesting.
I had some amazing templates I set up myself, but they're on my other computer and I can't access them right now. v___v'
^_^ thanks, o.k., what's each square size? Isn't a charset character 16X16? So what would a tile be?

The darker green 's' tiles are not solid but the tiles that join the corners. For example:

The right side shows the s tiles as they are supposed to be used. Basically they're the 8x8 edge corners compiled in one tile.
Also, a note on the red tiles. They have four animation frames, so there's only room for three automated tiles. Also, you cannot use background colour behind them - it becomes black.
Really, the best way to learn this is by going in and messing with the tiles themselves. Do a bit of editing and compiling and you'll soon learn the ropes!
(I also did do some Crystalis ripping and tile compilation... but then I had them recoloured. They're pretty easy to do, though, and if you can get a program that will let you select 16x16 squares, then you're all set. I'd recommend photoshop or iDraw.)

I use charactermaker1999, it's mostly for spriting characters, but there are other things that may be needed to use with that program, the reason why I was asking ^_^, anyone have an answer to my earlier question?
