A masterpiece in the making

*warning warning warning*

That is not a complete game and this is not a complete review, BUT a demo/beta that will be completed when (and IF!) the game will be finished. But I hope so. No rating. Still, I am here to tell you about my experience with this game, that for what concerns the gameplay I guess it is more or lesse complete (except for the fact that it should be bigger and more varied). Let's begin!

in Yume Wheeky er play as a little cute guinea pig. He lives in a nice cage with lot of things including a buddy, anyway when he sleeps he enters a surreal world of strange adventures!
Yume Wheeky can be defined as a sort of walking simulator: there is no dialogue (you are a guinea pig!) and no combat (again, you are a little and cute guinea pig!), but the real beauty is visiting the wondrous places listening to a cool soundtrack.

WHAT'S ON TV MY LITTLE FRIEND?

Ok, wait, to tell the truth there IS more! Visiting the various places there are some "tasks" like exploring and navigating mazes and interacting with various beings and things to earn new effects. The effects are various alternate forms that are pretty funny and sometimes useful (like the one that make you use a skate to drive around the levels at high speed!)

Now, you probably know Kikiyama's Yume Nikki ("Diary of dreams"), in case you don't, that is a free RPG Maker 2003 game where you play as a girl, Madotsuki (a "hikikomori" that lives in a tiny apartment maybe worse than the cage of our cute guinea pig), that has to collect various effects and can wake up any time if she has to save the game or she is stuck and cannot proceed further.
So this is a faithful fangame/parody/homage or what it is (even if without the blood and ), anyway the good feature is that our heroic furred hero can save anytime and anywhere, while still having the possibility to wake up and exit (and the re-enter, of course) the dream world whenever he wishes!

I AM NOT USING DRUGS, I SWEAR!

Ok, now the best part: the game has great custom graphics, I know that there is probably more that will be added for the final version, more effects, worlds and... beings! Yeah, the weird dreamland is populated by weird, bizzarre but harmless creatures, and it is possible to interact with some of them to hear some strange sound and/or get a new effect!
Ok, so visually the game is cool, there are many weird locations and evocative landscapes, mapping is still work in progress but I admit that I find it pretty good considered the custom sprites and other resources.
Likeqise sounds and music are excellent, really. I liked them a lot, and I cannot complain od these aspects, the game is a pleasure to see and listen, and yeah, it's a sort of walking simulator so there is not much to do and the interactions are a bit limitated, but it's still early to judge this aspect.

There are also a couple of bugs and clipping issues like in the part of the station where the train is (you can walk over the walls on the upper/right area) and in a couple of other spaces I did not remember, anyway it's really a minor problem and this is also excusable due to incomplete nature of this work of art!

WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

Final words
Yume Wheeky is probably going to be, in my opinion, the best Yume Nikki fangame.
It looks and sounds good, it's relaxing, funny and cute, and I liked that.
I don't think there will be some unusual features that will be added to this beta (but we never know which new effects will be made), but I like it anyway as it is, with its beautiful surreal landscapes, cute characters, mazes and great music! There is not a lot that can be done to improve this demo, one surely is adding MOAR (and fixing minor issues that are, in fact, minor!).

In short:

Did you like Yume Nikki? Play Yume Wheeky!
You did not like Yume Nikki? Then play Yume Wheeky!!
You don't know what Yume Nikki is? Play this game anyway!!!
It's cool!
