Intro
"RMN Kitchen" was developed by pianotm using RPG Maker VX Ace and was a submission for RMN's 14th Birtthday event. An event that tasked people to make a game in 14 hours and gave them a few nonsensical prompts to include like a fish hitchhiking to Alaska. Albeit the developers weren't on an obligation to include all of the prompts which is probably a good thing since I'm not a particularly good judge of rap battles, but this game does include a few of the other prompts as it weaves it's story.
Story
You play as a doe whose wandered up to the top of the tallest mountain peak for miles to arrive at a restaurant run by one of the most famous chefs in the world. For this establishment is run by the legendary Gordon Ramsey whose far more polite on British TV but an absolute #$#hole when on shows filmed for Americans since they like him better that way for some reason.
Truly this is the way all American TV should be!
At any rate this Gordon Ramsey is American inspired in this game and was cursed by a witch for his shitty attitude. Thankfully for us Gordon Ramsey is willing to not turn us into a meal if we can help him find some ingredients he'll need for the witch's meal. After all, Gordon Ramsey really doesn't want to remain a ram with a desire to headbutt his students in the backside forever.
Weird Questions
I kind of question why the witch turned Gordon into a ram. I realize he's last name is Ramsey and you can't spell Ramsey without Ram, but when I think of animals that are abrasive the first animal that comes to mind is hippos. Seriously hippos are the deadliest animal in Africa and by a large margin. They have really shitty attitudes about people coming close to them and will gladly attack people in order to defend their territory which is why people avoid them when possible.
And if it's his abrasive personality that is the basis for the transformation you'd think she would have turned him into a donkey since male donkeys are sometimes referred to as jack%$##@.
Jeez, even a young goat would arguably make more sense since young goats are referred to as kids. At least if she took his personality as being childish.
I guess, I'm just saying there are better picks for animal here. Though, I suppose the choice in what kind of animal he was turned into really isn't that important either. It just bugs me like a piece of popcorn stuck in my teeth that the pick here really doesn't fit with the reasoning she used to turn him. Though, I suppose the witch could have seen turning him into a donkey to be too obvious and anything else a little too exotic.
Gameplay
You run around interacting with people and objects in order to find fourteen missing scallops. Once you found all of them the game is over and your rewarded with an ending cut scene where Ramsey promises to not turn you into venison in the future. After all, you are a credit to deer kind everywhere. Even more so than Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
Graphics & Sound
On the graphical and sound side of things the game is alright in my opinion. There isn't anything particularly worthy of praise, but there isn't anything to really complain about either.
Conclusion
It's a weird event game where you help Gordon Ramsey find a bunch of scallops to make a dish for a witch. A witch that turned him into a ram for failing to feed her the last time she visited since he felt the meal his students prepared wasn't up to his standards. So it's a game with a weird story. Albeit not as weird as "One Hours (Pregnant Robot Kittens Ready to Take Over the World)" by Forever An Ill Fate but that's a hard act to top. At the same time the game is kind of boring since you'll spend the bulk of your time looking for hidden objects. So while the game's story is so out there it's worth experiencing in my opinion. The underlying game itself is pretty boring since you'll be spending upwards of ten minutes looking for hidden items on two different maps.
As it stands I'm not sure if ultimately want to recommend checking this one out or giving it a pass. On one hand, I'll admit my expectations aren't that high for event games but looking for hidden items just makes this game feel like a ten minute plus fetch quest. And fetch quests tend to just suck in my opinion. So if you think the premise alone will be enough to keep you entertained for fifteen minutes or so I'd suggest giving this one a look. If you think a lengthy fetch quest is pretty boring then I'd suggest giving this one a pass.
