Update 1.2 - The Auctoritas Update

Hi everyone! Happy 2022! And a belated happy 1 year anniversary to the official release of StyxQuest!

This update has taken a while to put together due to real-life things that needed attention. Like graduating and looking for a job in animation. And covid. And low points in productivity. One thing that this game has done to me, however, is that it's allowed me to further explore certain aspects of the world and how it could relate to future projects. But that's something to go into in the far future. For now, I present to you a brand new update!

Update 1.2! If "Auctoritas" isn't in the lower-right corner when you launch, go update! Here's what this update adds:

New locations
More enemies and characters with skills to boot
3 new boss battles against the remaining Sins! Stay on your toes!
More l o r e
Some graphical tweaks
Special thanks to Mr. Crow, Lintilion, Salem Flowers and Sara Garrard for contributing music, a big thank you to Pizzapranks for their demon design and a special thanks to magicabie for providing the voice for Lilith!

In terms of named updates, there's only one left. It won't be a fun update that redefines the game but it flesh out the world of StyxQuest and make it look much nicer. And it will certainly take a while to put together. There's an idea for something beyond 1.3 - a very special 1.4 that gives you all a new experience to put the lovable little imp through. It's just an idea though and it's early days; if that plan falls through, then it's no big deal. Because regardless I'll be getting to work on reviving an old project. Thankfully being a procrastinator has its benefits.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everybody!

Update 1.2 is coming along slowly but surely. I'm hopeful it'll be ready before March.

For now, here! Here are some lovely folks you'll meet.


Lilith, Avatar of Lust: One of the first humans and a new boss. Despite her popularity she doesn't feel any connection with anyone. That's to be expected when you're surrounded by demons.


Sinless: All demons have sins. Those without? They become something more powerful. Think of their sins as limiters: without sloth or gluttony or pride or whatnot, there'd be nothing stopping you from achieving greatness.


Mound Mimic: My favourite enemy design yet. So simple, yet striking.

Hope you all had a good 2021. May 2022 be the year things start to improve!

Happy Conception Day!



​Hello all!
On this day, around this time, StyxQuest was born. It came from the ashes of three cancelled things I was a part of: an Inktober challenge, an unannounced RPGMaker project and a DND character for a group that fell apart. Without these three things - as well as support from a lot of people - I would likely have given up halfway through.
Happy conception day, Styx.


(Also, update 1.2 is in the works. Unfortunately there is not much to show off right now due to IRL commitments but you should expect to see something before the end of the year.)

Update 1.1 - The Frugalitas Update

Hello all! I hope you've enjoyed playing the game. I submitted this game to Indiepocalypse Issue #21 and was...very surprised to find that my game was chosen. This is my first semi-commercial project and have a long way to go in terms of being an awesome RPGMaker dev. But anyways!

Update 1.1. If "Frugalitas" isn't in the lower-right corner when you launch, go update! Here's what this update adds:

-More items, weapons and armour to add more variety to combat
-Minor bug and text fixes
-Two new areas (good luck finding them)
-Minor combat rebalancing
-L O R E
-A bestiary! Learn more about past foes!
-Fixed the end credits. Turns out they were a little broken. Whoops.

There's still more content I need to add before I'm completely happy with StyxQuest. Update 1.2 will add some new enemies and bosses (with new areas to boot), but outside of that? I'm interested to hear what you'd like to see. Drop your thoughts and feedback in the comments.

Update 1.0.1

This here is a minor update with big impact. Turns out there was a critical oversight that cut the game short. It's fixed now, don't worry.

Launch Day post!

Hi all!
After almost 10 months of daily work, three sketchbooks and a lot of scrapped ideas, StyxQuest is done and released! I set myself the deadline of finishing and putting this game out by the end of Summer, and what do you know! Right on the final day of August!

The demo's been updated to better capture the experience of the full game (which there is a link to on the page below the blurb).

If you have found any bugs in the full version or any criticisms, either post them on itch.io or here.
I'll be taking a month-long break, then after that? An update will be in the works to make StyxQuest a more enjoyable experience. Maybe I'll include some facts about the game? Here's one to start it off: Styx was originally a character in a DnD campaign I was in. They were my character's patron and spoke with an Australian accent. The group fell apart due to some behind-the-scenes drama, but Styx remained.

I'd also like to thank GalacticGlitch and iodbc for contributing music to the project, as well as TJ Coolshades, K.B., 7 Hell and iron-mage for coming up with the designs for some demons.

Progress Report

August Update

Hi there!

So, I started working on the demo for StyxQuest in November 2020, and aimed to release it by Valentine's Day 2021. On itch.io. It worked, though the rush did result in the combat being unfair. As well as minor oversights being present.
For the full game, I aimed to release it sometime this Summer. And as of writing this, it has just turned to August. There is a fair chunk of work to do and a looming deadline, but I believe it's feasible for me to still reach that deadline!

Here's the plan for this month:
-Finish cutscenes (in progress)
-Create all maps (near completion)
-Eventing and sprites (on backburner, will take care of once maps are assembled)
-Post updated demo (Optional, but likely to happen)

And to finish this update, I'll leave you with this small gift.
