Arrr! Towelket of the Caribbean!

Hello and welcome to another week and another adventure in the colorful, cute and creepy! world(s) of the Towelket series by Kanao! Towelket 6 Ocean is the game, and as usual, mind that despite the cute characters and the childish setting... this is not a game for children! It's comparable as a South Park episode for dirty jokes and violence (I do not rememberone episode in which there is NO experiment/torture chamber, also it is probably the only game series where you can equip a dead body as an accessory!), but has its own character.

Anyway if you really want to enjoy this game please do yourself a favour and play the previous episodes because Towelket 4 has references to them all, it's also longer than the previous episode that disappointed me a bit. Anyway if you want to learn what I think of the previous episodes, here they are:

Towelket - One More Time 3
Towelket - One More Time 2
Towelket - One More Time
Towelket - One More Time 6 Devils&Devils&Nightmares&Devils

Yes, the order is correct, Towelker 5 Fury will come after nr 6. This is weird, but not as weird as this game, anyway let's start from the beginning.

Holy cow! Looks like that even Cow-chan is back again!!! That's so cool!

The game starts with Moochasu, that has the same name and is identical to the protagonist of Towelket 2 and 1 (he even uses the same weapon, a whip!), but for the first time his life isn't changed by aliens! The in fact saves a fairy, Warawau (same name and appearance of one of the girls protagonist of the previous game) that leads him to a fantasy world called Bariland (that says it's his same world 400 years in the past). But once there they're attacked by a pirate captain and his crew of robots, so Warawau flees (selfish coward!) and Moochasu is forced to fight for his life... and he wins! And he unwillingly becomes the new captain.

Back to the present day, Moochasu's friends Moca and Paripariume are looking for him. Somehow they will find the fairy's key that lead their friend to the magic world, and they're even able to find him! Unfortunately Moochasu apparently has lost most of his old memories, and now he call himself Captain Pucheen Hoocuckoo (the story is a parody of Peter Pan, since Warawau is the equivalent of Tinker Bell, and Moochasu's new name is a reference to Captain Hook!). He kidnaps Paripariume to take her as a wife, and throws Moca in the ocean because he is a man (even if he looks rather effeminate, but still he is a man!).

These are just some of the available companions! See the empty tables? See that door over there? Yes, there are even MORE!

But Moca is our alter-ego protagonist, so he cannot die in the prologue! A mermaid saves him and later leads him to a Pon village (Pons are the cute little bears with the perverted leader, present in every episode) where he becomes a protector of the people fighting the evil rats. But you know, peace won't last since pirates are aggressive, but what's worse is that the Fish Hat guys of the Kisechu Empire, that are a menace from the very first game, are back...

Well to tell the truth in this game almost everyone from the previous game is back, from Pucchi to Minpou, from Agochu to Mitsue, but of course their new incarnations will have different roles to play, despite the identical appearance and name, and there are also lots of other new characters. This game has a lots of party members, probably the largest number so far, and like the first two games it present us with a custom menu that includes a party member selector, unlockable skills, collectibles and so on. I welcome the return of some more complexity and choices! I also liked that there's a room where you can learn something about the characters and the references to the previous games.

A games about pirates would not be complete without a ship and an explorable world! But this is also a Jrpg about aliens, so expect to get an airship later!

A thing that instead the game does NOT take back from the first two episodes is the use of save points, and that's cool since I like saving every time I want! TECHNICALLY you could always save from the menu, but due to these white signs used to save I never noticed I could do this! Ok, Towelket games aren't really difficult, there are lots of items and most of them are readily available, just interact and loot everything!

From a visual point of view, there is not much to say: 90% assets are from the previous games (but there are also some classic Rtps, like the sprite of the ship), some locations are nearly identical, some characters are REALLY identical but because they're the same characters (with different roles... multiverse... well hard to explain, play the games and see yourself!). Anyway there are some novelties, since the pirate theme is totally new to the series, more dedicated to the sci-fi setting with aliens, robots and so on.

Are those fish-hat guys bad? No, they are the WORST!!!

Final Verdict
I absolutely loved Towelket 6 Ocean, and together with Towelket 3, the very first entry, is my favourite so far. The plot is more complex than the two previous episodes, has a ton of characters, it's longer (6 hours!) and the ending really surprised me, unlike the more predictable previous episode that was a bit "meh". Not bad, but maybe less inspired. I also loved some jokes like for example Warawau in the prologue says to Moochasu something like "Don't fear the Pons, they are kind and harmless creatures"... yeah right, try to talk to them the next time you are in the very same zone, or better play the previous game and you will see!!!
All these games are story driven adventures, all have classic combat and nothing more, but this pirate adventure for me was really another high point for the series. Yes. Very cool, cute and creepy, and excellent job done by the translators!

one thing that's easy to miss, ALL Towelket games so far allow you to save whenever from the menu, but some of them also have overworld save points - some of them recover your party, and some have the exact same function as the menu saving. The overworld save points are basically reminders to save your game here and there.
I'm glad you enjoyed the game, I also had a lot of fun in the translation process.

Uhm did not the second (Towelket 2) have those white signs used as save points?
Oh yes you could also save from the menu too like in the first game! Anyway their presence made me fail to notice that possibility.

Well this and the first Towelket 3 are so far the best ones for story and events, party members etc (well graphics and sounds are mostly similar in each game so... the plot and development is where the game shines!)
2 is particularly weird because of the ring menu thing. As far as I recall by pressing shift you are able to save from the menu, but not from pressing x through the ring menu.

Yes, the menu has the save option, you also enter the classic menu from the ring menu, and I guess I can save anyway. But was faster using the white signs, they are scattered in most maps especially before critical encounters.
