Hello!
Today I'll talk about Phantasma: Phantasma: Remade and Remastered edition.
If you want you can still read the review of the OLD version, but I warn you that if you didn't played that one yet, it's really better playing this new version. The game is linked to a youtube web series, El Origen De Los Shadow (The Origin of The Shadow) and connected to another game, Crimson Snow (available HERE!), that I'm going to check soon.
In any case this is basically a revised version of the first thenutcrackerus RPG Maker MV game with some differences especially for what concerns the visuals: different maps and some different cutscenes, unfortunately I played the game a long ago so I'm not sure if also the dialogues were modified, but I guess so because I noticed some differences, for the rest the story is more or less the same with the two (bad and true) endings.
The game is, like the first version, centered on the figure of Phantom Scott, but to learn more I guess I'll have to play Crimson Snow!
Phantasma R&R is still Phantasma: the story of a pregnant woman that discovers after playing a (probably CURSED) computer game, that his son will be the avatar of some dark being known as Phantom Scott, a dark and murderous rebel angelic being. Apparently the reason is because she choose the "Ill run" or bad path in the videogame... anyway as in the previous version expect the presence of cute characters but also some dark, creepy moments.
The game is a short visual novel with some little exploration and many dialogues, totally linear except for a single choice that will determine the ending you will get, there's still a battle but this time is even more impossible, so it's just a distraction. In the same area you can also battle some weak rats, but again that's no use for that.
Concerning the graphics, the game uses a mix between custom made sprites and the classic RPG Maker MV Rtp assets: there's some style dissonance but I must admit that everything improved, mapping is a bit better even if some locations like the bathroom and the asylum cell still suffers of the "overly spacious room" syndrome, but at least now the house and the library look good. The custom characters are also much better defined, and the cutscenes, while they were still good in the first game, now they're even better.
Unfortunately there are still some minor issues, like a cut dialogue in the beginning of the game, or some parts that aren't clear, for example at a certain point you need to lie on the couch... but there are two of them! And the game accept only if you interact with the upper side of the left one. BUT later, on another day, you instead need to interact with the right cough, for some reason... uhm ok. Finally the garage entry is also difficult to find as it was in the first game. No other issues anyway, except maybe a couple of typos!
Once again the few and short animated cutscenes really stand out. I liked them very much, this time they're even better.
Final Verdict
Phantasma: Remade and Remastered edition is am improvement over the previous version, even if there are still some little imprecisions, by the way most of the game was largely unchanged. It's not very long (a little more than 20 minutes), and it probably will make little sense if you didn't or won't play Crimson Snow (something I'm going to do very soon, as I wrote before), since that game make us play as Phantom Scott and will probably explain more details about his story.
In any case this was Phantasma: Remade and Remastered edition, a slightly improved version of the first game (I think that mapping for example of bathroom and the area outside the house could be improved further) with an extremely simple gameplay, ok mapping, but quite interesting mysterious story.
