What the hell was this???

Hello, Rpgmaker 2003 players!
Cronies the Game is a... game made with Rpgmaker 2003 by MegaSocky, inspired to an old comic made at a younger age. This is a short adventure made this year for The Legend of Gaymak event.

The game is about Juno, the protagonist, going to dinner with his boyfriend, Patchy. But there is something new! This time Juno will meet for the first time his boyfriend's parents! What will happen? No, you are clearly not prepared anyway play and see by yourself!

Hey, wasn't this supposed to be a COMEDIC game?

I could immediately notice that the game is pretty small and short because there are just four maps, but it's a complete scenario: playing as Juno we can interact with the surroundings, talk to various people and... battle against Patchy's parents! Yes, because the discussions with the two starts a couple of classic rpgmaker battle where the different topics (special attacks) can be used to win the conversation (defeat the enemy) and some special abilities can instead be used to heal, for example. It's all very simple and parodistic, and that can be immediately understood by the intro that features that popular 2005 german coffee commercial called "Ghost Car"

The game uses a mish-mash of good old rpgmaker 2003 RTP assets, different custom made graphics and little animations (just look at the picture above!), there are also a couple of passability errors inside the cafè, and also some glitchy sprites, but nothing game breaking. I found two endings, one is what I think can be defined the "canonic epilogue" and the other it's a sort of Game Over that goes through a weird path and sequence of odd dialogues after being cursed by a skull! Uhm weird, but yes, WEIRD is exactly the word I'd use to define this game. What else? Sounds are music are probaly ripped from somewhere, anyway it's not bad, but beside this there isn't much else to say. The game includes no items, no shops, not even a classic inventory menu and it you can just use it to save.

The games includes a couples of battles... that actually consist into using different topics to win!

Final Verdict
Well, as often happens we have here a game so short and weird that's impossible to rate. I think that some of the issues and glitches are probably some little imprecisions due to the short time in which it was made, in any case despite some comedy moments there isn't a lot to play here or even a lot of story going on, but the boyfriends meeting surely fits 100% with the gaymak theme of the event, so I guess that this is ok! And I also appreciate the custom made assets (they remind to me of quirky games like Pup and Pen Pals).
Now, MegaSocky, please make a longer game for me to rate, thanks!
