Still alive.

Yep, still working on it.

The demo is done and the testers responses to it have been pretty good, but before releasing it I wanted to try and find someone who could make some music for it.

I don't really know how to ask this, because I'm too picky with music and my inspiration is basically old S/Nes and Game boy games, so my preference in music is very simple.

My idea was to have the person making the music play through the demo, then hear their opinions on the creation/placement of the music. This of course might be too time consuming for someone who just wants to make music, but I feel that in the end it will help a lot in the creation of the music.

If you can make music and want to help, let me know, or if anyone knows of a better way to go about finding/making music for a game also let me know.

Thanks for reading and have a nice day.

Last blog post? (Mostly Screenshots)

Well, since I was told that the site closing is not an April fools joke, here's the last update for this game.

I will keep working on the game although I won't really post it anywhere. Still I feel I those who have follow the game deserve to see how much progress has been made on it.

Now for some images.

Narcodis suggestion.

Learning about the encounter modes in the game.

Some story related ones.

Random maps

Thank you everyone who has supported the game and have a nice day.

Testers results

Here's another update for those of you who still check this out.

This update is mostly about the ideas and suggestions from the testers, and how I tried to
make them work.

First up. Improvements that cannot be put into screenshots.

-All scripts in the game have been redone.
-The speed of battles has been increased dramatically(Animations, damage and actions).
-Battle commands are now executed as soon as they are chosen.
-Now you can target both allies and enemies with attacks and some skills.
-Speed attribute for skills has been removed.

And now for the ones with screenshots.

One complaint about the battle system was the targeting.

It's been change, so it would allow for Square/Shape choosing and target or location choosing.

Mostly field related skills allow you to choose squares freely, while normal skills would allow you to choose only targets and whatever is caught up in the target area.

Another thing that bothered a few people was how the information about items and skills was displayed in battle.

Here's a comparison image with the old and new one.

And that would be it for today. I wanted to add a video to show it all in action but couldnt find anyone who could record it with sound.

Also, I'm currently looking for someone who can draw very well to work on some of the scenes in the game that are too hard to convey with sprites.

Thank you for reading and have a nice day.

CSS and Scripts.

This is not really much of an update. I was finally able to work with CSS along with a friend and I'm pleased with the results.

TO VIEW THE RESULT PROPERLY USE CHROME For some reason it doesn't work as well on other browsers

As for the game. I've been working a lot on redoing many of the scripts I made back when I started and completely redoing all the code in the battle system to allow not only attack at turn but also global targeting(Attack friend or enemy) and targeting by area.

This is not really related to the game, but I did it to test out some new ideas.

Many thanks to Archeia for play testing and recording it.

Enjoy and once again thank you for reading and have a nice day.

Battle System Adjustments and mini story demo.

More Battle System stuff... Yay...!

Decided to give a try to a suggestion made by edchuy to allow actions to be taken right after input to increase the speed of battles. This change might take a while though since it requires to change a lot of things on the battle system.

Commands are going to be divided into Character (Attack, Skill, Rest, Item) and Global (Party, Move, Escape) commands. Pressing up or down while a character is active would switch between the 2 sets of commands.

Turn counter is going to be removed completely to allow the viewing of the current status of party members.

There are other changes and adjustments that are going to be done, but it's too early to mention them.

Preview Images:

I personally like how you can view the stats of items and Party members at the same time.

Mini demo:

DEMO LINK

I don't know how long it's going to be up so, grab it while you can.

I feel like I'm cutting way too much out of the story, because of sprite limitations and trying not to make it too boring. This is why I'm posting this small story demo to see if people like the flow and speed of the story.

Notes:
-The demo has no music because the game has no music done for it. Yet.
-You can skip stories by pressing CTRL which will prompt a skip cutscene message.
-The first battle is going to be turned into a tutorial. For now it just ends fast as part of the story.
-The demo is sort of old so some things might have changed since it was uploaded.
-Enjoy the battles at the end?

Also comment.

Have a nice day and thanks for reading.

Time and art.

Today I want to share the most unique and rewarding experience I've had while working on this game.

The art and the artist who made it.

Since I haven't properly thanked most of them and most people would never see these some of these works, I at least wanted to show how grateful I was for their contribution by displaying them.

Let's start with the most recent of the artist who've helped me.

Archeia (Has other names)
http://enexodia.deviantart.com/
http://divisionheaven.blogspot.com/

Great person to work with and great artist with a very humble disposition. Never really complains and got the work done fairly fast since there were some pauses from one work to the other.

Contributions:

She redesigned all 3 main characters along with a few others and colored them then recolor them some time later. She was also the one who pushed me to finish the menu since she finished the art for it.

Also the only artist so far to make Odin fully with a complete face.

Funny notes:
Odin's hair took about 10 tries to get right (I kept explaining the wrong thing).
She added Gilgamesh fanny pack.

Up next is NIS.

Truly the most talented artist I've ever met in terms of speed and quality. He design the first Odin and did some other art for the game. Since he had asked not to show incomplete works I can only show you one.

He is also the person who inspired me to add more tactical aspects to the battle system since he liked tactical battles. I'm truly sad that my abilities back then did not match up to his greatness.

Contributions:

Airul, one of the antagonist of the story.

Up next would be Joy/Joymason, not an artist that has work directly with the game, but she did make this piece as an exchange for a script. Very nice piece that it's worth showing.

And last but not least the first artist who ever helped me. Marta. My inspiration for working on this game and programming in general.
http://marcalv.deviantart.com/

She designed one special character that made me want to work on my game.

Ouroboros the Gate keeper.

.
(Color by Archeia)

And for the people who want beards. (That's the best you're getting)

Well, as always thanks for reading and have a nice. And to all those artist wherever you are.

Thank you very much for your help.

Looking for a tester.

I'm looking for someone to test the Battle System and other features of the game to provide feedback or suggestions about them.

I'm not all that picky, but I do need someone that can give me a firm opinion on what they understand and what they don't.

Requirements:
Messenger account would be great and it would speed things up greatly.
Good disposition.

If anyone is interested please leave a message here or send me a PM.

Thanks for reading and have a nice day.

CSS, Concerns and 80% done.

Great update today.

Tried to CSS the game page and failed miserably. Even after reading a bunch of tutorials... So if anyone could help me with CSS it would be greatly appreciated. I'm willing to make a script or something in return if the person wants or needs it in exchange (VX or XP).

Also just so people will stop asking for the scripts. I made both the menu and Battle System and no they are not for public use.

It's nice that people care enough to keep sending me tips about what to add to the game but, it's not done and it's not a Final Fantasy game, so sending me a wish list of features you want me to add from other games is not help and neither is wanting to change everything you see to your liking.

Which brings me to a personal concern about working on this game. I'm not making the greatest game ever or even close. This is a simple hobby for me, that I do to pass the time. I'm not a professional nor am I after achieving perfection by making a game. I just give it my all and work as hard as I can, and then hope for the best. So I don't honestly care about pleasing anyone or at least in the sense of making everything they want in a game.

And after all that, images from the demo. It's over 80% done, all that's missing is mostly the music and testing.

Abilities. Total in demo: 24

I wanted to add more images but, most would spoil too much and these ones at least show more of the mapping style.

Once again, thanks for reading and have a nice day.

Battle System Demo Available.

A battle system demo is now available for download.

I wanted to put this demo up to see if people would like the flow of battles or not. So if you like it say something and if you don't say something too.

The goal of the demo is obtaining 3 HP Boost abilities by using your own approach to get them.

Tips for using the Battle System:

1. There are no levels, your attributes will increase according to how you do in battle.
2. Your position in battle determines the power and accuracy of your physical attacks.
3. You can hide behind allies to receive a defense boost.
4. Pressing CTRL Key during battle will pop up a retry menu to restart the battle.
5. Food items have special effects after they are consumed, these effects can be activated during or before battle battle by consuming the food in the menu. Battle Effects do not stack.

I want to put more information but, I really want to see how much people figure out about it by themselves.

Enjoy the Demo.

Thanks for reading and have a nice day.

Faces and Maps

It's been a while since I made an update so, I decided to make a small update about a few things.

The faces and text system has been one of my favorite things to work with recently, so I'm very happy about this part of the update.

These are some of the faces that are used on the message system. Many thanks to Justin for making the emotions base to work with, and for the pixel art work used in the game.

And below are the faces in action on the message window.

Some people wanted to see more map images of the game but recently I noticed that my map skills have gone down considerably and I need to focus on the old Nes/Gameboy feel I wanted to give the maps.

I wanted to show at least 4 or 5 map images but, it seems I only have a few maps that would not spoil too much and were not on the list for being redone.

So I leave you with sadly 1 map image of the first town in the game.

Once again thanks for reading and have a nice day.
