How to unlock the Arcade from the main menu

Okay, purely hypothetical situation: suppose there was this game whose creator went a bit overboard with creating crazy minigames and stuff. And let's further suppose purely hypothetically that some of you might consider nominating said game for the "technical prowess" Misaos award because of the text adventure and jeep chase and stuff, but didn't because the game is hypothetically speaking also very long and some of you didn't make it far enough into the game to discover all the weird little minigames. And let's further suppose that this game had an Arcade map that allowed easy and direct access to all the various minigames, but that map would be unlocked only after completion of the entire game.

In this entirely hypothetical and fictional situation of someone maybe wanting to check out the minigames without having to invest 30 hours or more for finishing the entire game, there might be an easy solution: the game checks for the presence of a file called "gd_rpg.fin" in the game directory (%APPDATA%\GD_RPG) - to unlock the bonus features from the main menu - just create an empty text file in that folder and rename it to gd_rpg.fin.

Savegame for choosing between Dave and Martine

I added a savegame to the downloads section that lets you choose between playing through Europe with either Dave or Martine - aside from the obvious differences in gameplay between having a healer vs a guy with strong attack skills in your party, there are lots of differences in the story - tons of changes in the dialogue and a couple completely unique quests and minigames for each character. The savegame drops you off at the Siberian airbase directly after the boss battle, you have Dave in your party and can talk to Martine to recruit her and dismiss Dave. All sidequests up to that point in the game are finished, your party is leveled up to around level 60, and you have a ton of money and equipment (including all unique weapons and armor items up to that point) so you can hop right in and enjoy replaying the Europe quests without having to do any grinding.

Release!

Ladies and Gentlemen,
the moment you've all been waiting for is here. Well...if you've ever heard about this game before, that is. And if you actually remember having heard about it. And were curious enough to want to play it. Anyway, err, yes. It's finished now, has been thoroughly tested (although I probably still managed to mess up here and there), and there's a shiny new download link in the "downloads" section, of all places.

The full version is a 260MB download and comes with the complete 122-page game guide, containing a walkthrough, an equipment guide, and a couple other things.

New downloads

Umm, what did I just do? I somehow managed to reset my download count to zero when adding my latest demo, but anyway...demo version 1.5, available now, wooo! This demo is exactly what the full version will be like, with an improved battle system and main menu and tons of other fixes.

I also added the game's manual as a download, it's written with complete RPG noobs in mind but it contains a bit of info on the game's features and a couple glimpses into the background story.

New Demo Version, finally

It's been a long time, but I was finally able to release a new and updated version of the demo. Version 1.4 adds tons of improvements:

*Completely remodelled GUI
*Mouse support everywhere
*New faceset (the faceset selector is not available for the demo)
*Tons of balancing fixes and extended hints to make the beginning a bit friendlier
*New boss fight
*New minigame

GUI redesign, and mouse support

I've spent the weekend completely redesigning the GUI, I think it looks a bit more professional now. The game now also has full mouse support (based on DerVVulfman's Mousie, but I tweaked it beyond recognition and added a number of features).

Miscellaneous

New art style

I'm currently working with an artist who will probably redo all the face graphics in the same style as the tattoo parlor images. I'll post some sreens of the enw faces as soon as I have them...

New demo version 1.3

I just uploaded an updated version of the demo, v1.3 adds facesets, an improved shop dialog and various fixes here and there.

Looking for beta testers

I am looking for a couple of people to test the game and give feedback on what does/doesn't work. Beta testing is already ongoing, but I'm still looking for a couple more testers. If you're interested, just send me a message or go to the game's forum at http://defaultgames.de/phpbb3 and send me a PM there (that's where beta discussions are taking place).
