The Arcanon
"In unseen conflictions with shapes
Bred from his forsaken wilderness,
Combustion, blast, vapour and cloud.
Dark revolving in silent activity:
Unseen in tormenting passions;
An activity unknown and horrible;
A self-contemplating shadow,
In enormous labours occupied"
-William Blake, "The Book of Urizen"

The Arcanon is the Graylands' answer to the cannon; in a world where magic exists and gunpowder charge was invented late or never, the former replaces the latter. Arcanon are magical artillery. They do not cast charms or enchantments, do not brew potions or pore over ancient tomes, they do not cast healing or utility spells. They destroy. They destroy entire regiments. All Arcanon are trained at the old Iosian College of Battle Magick in Theodex, however that does not make them loyal to Theodex or House Montclaire. Although it exists smack in the center of Theodex province, the College is administrated by the Mage's Guild, an apolitical organization whose existence was mandated so that Arcanons can be monitored, cataloged, and tracked through each stage of their training and careers. It became clear that this was a necessity after the Arcanon uprising lead by the Sorcerer Maltheus that nearly destroyed Old Iosia.
In smaller battles, an Arcanon is like a faster-moving trebuchet or scorpion. He is placed in a protected position from which to hurl death-usually in the form of fire, lightning, and magical force but occasionally also frost or crashing waves of conjured water- upon the enemies, punishing enemies for clustering into tight formations. In large scale conflicts, Arcanons intersperse themselves into the front line troops, and as the two massed forces advance towards each other and the archers fire their salvos, the Arcanons fire theirs, with crackling comets of fire and deadly magickal energy hurtling in parabolic arcs through the night sky to fall on and decimate enemy ranks.

Oh I didn't realize Craze made those graphics. : P
In all seriousness, if I were to comment every time someone re-uses a graphic I've used for a major character, I'd be saying "Hi" to one of my characters in more or less every other project that comes out. But if you prefer...

He didn't. I just found it odd that the graphic was re-used so quickly - maybe because IPoP brought Mak-a-Do to your attention?
Well, only in the sense that I asked Craze where he got those graphics from and then he linked me to Mak-a-Do and then I said YOINK and decided to use it for something. : )
I'll try to stay away from the graphic he used for his dude...wizards should be old and grizzled anyway.

The new graphic you chose makes more sense to me in terms of what you want for the arcanon compared to the earlier version:
- he's old, therefore wise and smart (i.e. intelligent)
- because he's old, he has learned to cast powerful spells, but is physical frail and has low stamina (that's why he needs cool-down after some spells)
- the only thing that I'm not sure about would be his swiftness in battle compared to a "trebuchet or scorpion"

lol
Now I just really want someone to crappily photoshop him into some kind of centaur with a wizard-top and a catapult-bottom.

Sorry to ask, but where did the word Arcanon come from? In your game is the first time I've ever heard of it. It has no entry in Merriam-Webster, nor Wikipedia. It does have one in Urban Dictionary, that has nothing to do with the one here.
Arcane + cannon.
Yeah, it's cheesy.

I would have thought this blog post if nothing else made the cheesy portmanteau/pun incredibly obvious. : P
