Intro
"Fire Emblem: Children of Destiny" is a RPG that was being developed by Spazzgamer27 using the illegal version of RPG Maker 2003 that never got past the demo stage. In fact, the only reason a demo was released was for the sake of the Release Something event held back in December of 2007 on Christmas Eve. An event so old that it's not even on the official list of past events so you'll need to go forum post diving to find it. At any rate this is going to be a hard demo to write a lot about since it only includes one battle and allows the player to explore two buildings in what was planned to be the game's first town. So there really isn't that much content here. In fact, you can readily see everything the demo has to offer in under five minutes.
Story
I'm not really sure what the planned plot for this project was. At least based on the content in the demo since the game contains very little dialogue. Though it does appear that the characters are rather clueless when it comes to the monsters that seem to pop up in a lot of Fire Emblem games.
And that the characters are on there way to Ostia, but the game doesn't really tell us why they are going there. We also get told that Eliwood is upset about events surrounding a woman named Ninian.
Gameplay
The game uses the standard active-time battle system that comes with RPG Maker 2003 which is pretty annoying in my opinion since I hate it when games force me to rush when needing to pick options in menus. Thankfully you can set the game to passive mode when you arrive in the town, but doing so is kind of pointless considering this will be after the only fight in the demo against a pair of Mogalls. We also learn that skills in this demo are free to use though Hector's skill is so inaccurate that it's utterly useless.
Thankfully Eliwood's sleep inducing move is way more accurate, but doesn't seem to have a particularly high chance when it comes to inflicting status. Though I suppose that doesn't matter to much since it easily does twice the damage of his regular attack. So putting the enemy to sleep is just a bonus at that point. And since the game only has one test battle. I really can't comment that much on the game's combat balance since that one battle is meant to be an easy prologue battle for the player to get a feel for the game's mechanics.
Graphics
The game uses a combination of sprites ripped from "Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade", "Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones", and the RTP for RPG Maker 2003. And the last of those is a bit disappointing in my opinion since the RTP assets really don't match the look of a Fire Emblem game in my opinion. As a result the game seems to have a split visual identity that gets under my skin.
Sound
As far as I can tell the game uses a combination of tracks and sound effects from the RTP as well as those ripped from other games. The most obvious example of this being the battle theme which comes from "Final Fantasy X". Though I suppose these aspects of the demo at least blend together better. Albeit, I'm scratching my head over why Spazzgamer27 is using music from the Final Fantasy franchise in a fan game for "Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade".
Conclusion
There really isn't a reason to play this demo in my opinion unless your looking for a quick review target. After all, this is a demo for a project that hasn't seen any updates in over a decade and a half. So the likelihood this project will ever be completed is probably close to zero. Add in the fact the demo takes under five minutes to complete and your left with a demo with so little meat on it's bones that's not even worth lamenting what could have been since this project never really got off the ground in my opinion.
