Casting Call! Part 1 of 3: Edan

So this surrealism thing is a bit of a challenge. I’m not an artist. I can’t really do surrealism. I’m not even sure I could tell you what surrealism even is. I kind of think that’s the point.

Anaryu and I had a pretty hard time trying to adapt the theme into the project, and whether we succeeded or not is probably questionable, but it’s the thought that counts! What we thought was most important was to have a fun, interesting game with cool mechanics. I think he’s done well with that part so far, to say the least.

So what is this game about, anyway? Well, in honor of the theme and the spirit of originality, we have decided to go with a completely unique premise: cute schoolkids fighting otherworldy horrors. That’s original, right?

Right?

So! Let’s meet our contestants!

Edan Mekaisto

He’s smiling because he doesn’t realize his hand is on fire.

Dev. Codename: Firedude
Aspect: Fire
Weapon of Choice: HE DOESN’T NEED A WEAPON
Likes: Food, sleeping, food, barbeque, friends, and food. Also food.
Dislikes: Hunger, studying
Trivia: Edan is an Irish name. It means “Little fire.”

Edan is a new Initiate at the ARC Institute, selected to join the ranks of the elite Watchers who protect the world from the unearthly powers of beyond.

Edan is a country boy who enjoys simple things and doesn’t take things too seriously. He feels out of place in such a structured environment, but he always tries his best. He is affable and good-hearted, always trying to see the best in everyone. He has power over fire and can harness it to destroy danger and to protect his friends. However, his power is very dangerous and hard for him to control, and he is very self-conscious about it.

Edan’s specialties in combat are direct damage and offensive abilities.

Edan, seen here performing his vaunted “Kick-You-In-The-Face-Attack.”

It takes a lot of effort to look this clueless.

I think your feelings on the surrealist thing are shared by everyone going into this, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

You say "cute schoolkids", how old are these kids exactly? Edan looks mid-teens to me.
Edan is mid-teens, the other two are older.

Well from the beginning I had the feeling this contest would be mainly filled with anime styled RPGs with "weird" settings or elements attached to them. To that extent I'm a little disappointed. But hey yeah! Hope there's a good game behind this, which what really matters in any case.

I don't know about that, there's some pretty wild stuff surfacing for this competition.

I think there'll be at least a couple really mind boggling games - the more surreal the actual game versus just some theme the better their chances at the competition, but I really wanted to make a good old RPG, and one we can continue after the competition too.

Since I'm not a deep enough person to make a truly surreal experience, I wanted to focus on making as interesting a game as possible instead.

Thought about making a series of different things, but interest in those tends to be sporadic and low, and updates ignored, and I wanted to do something that'll continue for months after the contest.

I agree with this, however, I think that this is the best game in terms of work gone into (not that I can ever know how much work has gone into other entries, it just looks like this has a lot of work gone into it) it and production quality that I've seen come from the competition thus far.

It's most definitely the most gamey game I've seen come out of the event.

Oh, they've been working on it pretty much non-stop all month. Me, I basically just tricked them into putting my name on it, the fools! have kind of been a more peripheral role, especially compared to my role in Avarice.

(If only you knew...)

(\(=Д=(\) .... Where's my pen...?
(/)=Д=)/) .... Can I sleep yet...?

.... Now?

Solitayre doesn't understand the value of coming up with rough drafts and polishing them. When I make something from scratch and polish it a bit (or not at all if I don't have the time!) it's like making a first draft game.

When someone else comes up with the ideas and then others get to give input and polish without investing a lot of time, the quality goes up exponentially.

If there's one thing I'm good at, it's project management. Since that's the job I've been doing for like six years now.

.... Now?

7 more enemies to go. Then sleep. Maybe... another cool panorama would add a lot...
