Beyond Infinity... but still not infinite enough!

Hellooo!
This is me in Infinity 2, the sequel of Infinity, a game I recently reviewed HERE!. As for the fist Infinity in this game we play as new guy or girl that arrives in town. And does things like uhm exploring different places, earning and spending money, morphing into different characters and working for criminals (I remember the bank heist from the first game). Yeah, freedom, total freedom!
Well in theory this was the idea...
Exactly like in the first game, the adventure begins with the selection of our alter ego. Not that this makes a lot of difference, on the contrary it's just a cosmetic appearance, anyway I found rather strange that the cursor had to pass through the open door (well it was sufficient to enable passability for all tiles...still this was not done, weird)!!!
Ok, I admit that I expecte even less for this Infinity 2, I mean first game was rather shallow and had really few things to do, in less than one hour you could do and unlock everything. Here it's not really the same, still it's far from the open-world nature of some games, but introduces many new features.
I'm not sure that running with a bicycle around the tombs in the cemetery should be allowed!
The first is combat: this time you can equip your character and spend some money to enter the arena and fight some classic creatures to level up. IT's just a pity that the place has no shop to restock your consumables and heal, but you need to go back to town. Sigh. At least you may save anywhere and anytime, and with the introduction of combat, it's always good. It's a pity that our hero/heroine has no skills, but this is not a fantasy jrpg, still you will level up if you fight enough opponent, and earn a ton of money.
Surprisingly you can also work as an assassin, and while this is a totally safe job compared to fighting monsters in the arena (I expected being a hired killer to be a dangerous profession, but uhm ok!) you will not earn much money (again, this is not what I expected from being an assassin!). Anyway there's a lot to do and explore, like going to the beach, buying a house, searching the mailboxes around town, entering the church... sadly no romance in this game, unfortunately you cannot get married and make silly screenshots like in the first game, thanks to the protagonist's ability to morph. Yes, like in the first game you may interact with some individuals and copy their appearance, they are the same from the first game and as usual the game does not even ask! No, you automatically become their clone!
This time the game includes battles against monsters hated by humanity (or so they told me!)
Ok, this also happened in the first game, and in this one too we have the return of Mario's statues that lets you change the visuals to greyscale... not something I really missed, like I did not miss the day-to-night cycle, that this time it's replaced by a season cycle. In my opinion, it's surely better because it actually changes the map... yes, just one, the town map (apparently seasons do not change in the city, at the beach or in other locations), and in winter lets you walk on frozen lakes to access some previously unreachable locations. Only problem is that the seasons change every minute! Whoa, that's too fast!
Mapping is slightly improved from the first game: the town is as bland as usual, maybe even more now due to the presence of really few houses, it's not even a village! City is a crime den and nothing else... the good thing is that the addition of non-Rtp resources makes the game more varied and interesting, still the various locations could have been more detailes and re-sized to look better (not that there are mapping errors, passability problems or bugs, still... it could have been better!).
Anakin has turned to the dark side. Now he works for the mafia with Mr. X from Streets of Rage (on the left in front of the Tv)!!!
Final Verdict
I'm really happy with some choices (bigger world, more maps, combat, seasons) but I didn't like some changes (the simple puzzles, the removal of romance and marriage, for example that no matter how simple/silly it was funny). The game also suffers of bland mapping, still it's slightly better than the previous one due to the use of more resources, anyway town has just a couple of houses, and the city... well it should be called "city block" and that's all. I welcome the addition of combat and the cave with random encounters that add something more to do in an infinite world that sadly looks a bit empty, anyway this is no better nor worse than the first game (merging together these two first Infinity games would have been cool, I mean the lack of content is the main problem), even if I admit I enjoyed exploring its world for an hour of good time, but if you really want to play an open-world rpgmaker game, you have to look elsewhere.

Hello! Thank you so much for your review after all these years later. Looking back they weren't my finest work, but it was a start and a learning experience. And the concept of making an open world game in RPG Maker just needed some fine tuning. Fast forward a decade later, and finally my skills were good enough to publish two commercial games on Steam (Knightblade & Neopunk), with a third on the way. All using that open world concept. I hope you and your readers check them out here! Knightblade is definitely the evolution of the Infinity series.

Hello!
well it was an ambitious project anyway I liked some parts, probably this was one of my favourites entries of the series. I like the downtown mapping for example.
Ohhhh Neonpunk is something I'm sure I've seen or hearg before... looks VERY COOL! This makes me curious! Well done!
