The world is inhabited by a myriad of malevolent spirits, and it is up to the clerics to extinguish them. They can reside in anything from an everyday chair to animals, and even humans. If they actually manifest they can cause immense damage and the casualties are usually large. Children who show any sort of psychic skill are taken from their family at a young age and trained to hone said skills and detect and combat the spirits. Most clerics are relatively young since death is very common.

The spirits themselves can only infest those that have weak spirits, or have given up on life. They constantly seek out hosts and are all to welcome to grant the downtrodden the relief they so desire. It is much easier to inhabit inanimate objects however, but those grant the spirit less energy to draw from so they are mostly resigned for the lower level spirits. They are able to walk freely, but only outside of city walls are they seen since it is very beneficial to be viewed easily for them. Not all are dangerous but, a majority are. There are three distinctions between spirits.

Akuma - They are the lowest level of malevolent spirit. They inhabit objects and small, receptive children (although rare). They are many and are usually easily dispatched by any trained cleric. Few major incidents arise from them.

Oni- A much more dangerous spirit. These reside specifically in the hearts of men. They are much stronger than a average demon, taking multiple clerics to even be able to stand up to them.

Shinigami- They are the highest level of spirit, capable of laying entire cities to rubble at times. These require an immense amount of spiritual energy to even exist, so the host has to either be in the deepest of despair or have an incredible propensity for psychic power. Many clerics have actually fell prey to this fate because of their innate spiritual power. These are never short of a class A-S threat.


The story takes place primarily on the continent of Allure. It is one of the three world superpowers, and is mostly due to the fact that its clergy are much more powerful than others. This leads to more time to build and prosper and not fight off the spirits and reconstruct the city after attacks. It is a temperate environment.

The story will focus on Damien Amrita, a young clergymen who is propelled into the forefront of this eternal war with little to no warning and the trials and tribulations that befall him and those that follow his lead.
