Wizerd's puny pointless quest

"The Short-Lived Adventure of Wizerd" is exactly what it says on the tin.
"A disgustingly short and unambitious RPG about repetitive battles and background music.", including the implied sense of parody and humour.
It's simple, repetitive, your quest doesn't have a point, and it's all intentionally so. But it also has a nice, subtle dose of parody humour to make up for it.
The great hero goes out so save the princess!
Except this time, it's not really that great a hero. In fact, our wizerd hasn't even learned any real magic yet.
My, you flatter me..!
Inspired by anothergreat pointless quest I've played recently, I proudly called my hero "FECES" on his journey to save princess "DAUGHTER". Those are the only two names you'll see throughout the game. There are the Great Evil and some kings involved as well, but no need for an extra name there.
You go out, travel some villages, slay some monster, bosses and dragons, get back home with the princess, defeat the Great Evil and then .. well .. it all comes to naught.
Your "cheater's weapon", and the battle system as well, will it just make another pebble on your path. You just get on with battles and try to get somewhere. I had a hard time knowing where to go after I got back the first time (as I accidentally skipped that hint and couldn't get it again), but I still ended up where I wanted to go.
This constant reminder of your weakness - despite the unfair battle power - is part of the charm this game has. Starting with the chocolate-ish colour retro style. Part of the humour as well. I may not be fan of its kind, but it does what it's supposed to do.
You suck. You hate yourself. And apparantly, almost everyone in this game does.
I can read it, so all good.
The music plays well into this as well - piano-reliant, melancholic pieces. You are weak. And You feel weak. (..despite your cheater weapon, one-hitting everything if you so choose).
Which is where a huuge flaw comes up: the music. Style-wise, it fits perfectly. It truly does, but it gets so repetitive, slow and annoying, that playing the game becomes a chore thanks to this alone.
If one part of the game is dull, that is quite alright. If everything is, then it gnaws on the fun.
Still, the underlying constant puns, trope references and item descriptions make for a original and amusing paradoy. You'll find yourself smiling countless times.
Bought!
There's the MT. MOUNTAIN, OCEAN SEA and similiar. You are fighting bords instead of birds and generally, everything's twisted a little bit.
So is your quest to fight the perhaps not-so-evil evil, and save the asshole king's daughter. Not that it matters anyway. It all remains completely pointless to you, as you feel very distant towards what is going on in the game world.
So the ending doesn't really have any impact on you, it's just there. Your quest was indeed pointless. Although it was properly foreshadowed.
The battles are as simple as it can get, and I simply pushed through with the cheater's weapon to be done with it. It looks simple, plays simple, and becomes slow and slower if not for the few smiles inbetween.
There are some great ideas to twist the general game world in there, like the guy blocking your path claiming you need to get past there to finish the game. There's a consistent atmosphere - everything comes very well together, which is great.
But as the goal is a most boring, reptitive, pointless RPG, that's what it ends up as.
I quite enjoy parodies, and I like the game, but the gameplay made it very hard. Some different tunes would've been appreciated (the cave was mildly refreshing, at least).

Which makes sense, as we usually reflect from ourselves .. and it is your dream alright.

Given the references to "He figured he didn't want any more apples, so he wished for a banana instead", the "cheater's weapon" and so on. Also by the reflection of himself onto the whole world
