A break from RM'ing and a word about the Apocalypse [10/21/12]

Alright. So I'm gonna take a few days off so I can focus on learning some Ruby and RGSS3. Yes, that means this is going back to Ace. After using VX for a week, I decided Ace really was the better of the two.

So what does this entail?

Well after my short break I'm going to port everything over to Ace. With Hanzo's tilesets combined with Mack's. The maps should hopefully remain in the same basic shape. Meaning that I'll be doing my best to keep the houses and stuff in the same position.

Anyway, that's what's going on with The Alchemist's Brother.

Onto other news about the Apocalypse:

If you're like me, you heard everybody and their grandmother talking about 'OMFG! 12/21/12 IS THE END! (21/12/12 if you're not from US)'

Well, it's only two months (exactly) from that day and I don't hear anybody talking about it anymore. .. Well, that might be due to the fact that I'm a loner since I got out of school. But I digress.

Anyway, that's your daily blog. Don't expect another one until next week. I won't update this for one week. Seriously. So don't bother checking. On the 28th, I promise you'll get something.

Nothing to show [10/20/12]

Hey guys. I didn't do anything tangible with the project today. I started mapping out the Andres Forest, and when I got about half of it mapped I decided I needed to work on the battle system. Not the HUDs or anything, but balancing the game. So yeah. Sorry. :/

On the bright side, if I'm not too busy with real life tomorrow, I should hopefully have something for you all. :)

Slow your tits, gents. This is simply a mock up of what I intend to do with the battle system. Yes, it WILL be like this. However, it is not currently like this. It may not even be like this with the first few demos. But, it WILL be like this.

Progress Report

Battle-testing and battle-testing and RGSS2 and OHMAHGAWD. [10/18/12]

Ok. Sorry this is a late blog but I've been just mapping and battle-testing all day. Spent two fuggin hours just getting the battle scripts set up properly.

But I promise, all of this is worth it! I'm about 90% done with Aurali's maps. (Not including the forest.)

I'm still unsure of whether I should start eventing some stuff (intros/scenes in Aurali/etc) or go ahead and finish all of the mapping. Thoughts?

Also, how would you guys like to see the story portrayed here? People on RMW thought that the story needed a lot more 'fleshing out'.

Do you guys think it needs 'fleshing out' or did the addition of the world give it what it needed?

Oh. And I'll upload a video of Artephius wandering around the map. Just so you can see everything for what it is. :) And I'll even throw in a battle video soon. Ya like that, don't'cha?

RGSS2 + Ruby + Battle stuff = nothing to show [10/17/12]

Alright guys. Today I spent doing things with my family (I got to spend time with my fiancee and my little girl) so I didn't spend really any time on the game. However, I did manage to get some Ruby learning crammed into the morning. I still have about 3 hours or so before I gotta sleep so I'm sure I'll bring you guys something tangible. :)

Also, been working on the battles. Like the battlebacks, editing the script, making new graphics (like an awesome title that I'm still working on!) and the like. Keep your eyes peeled, friends. :)

Two new characters! (More to come![?]) + RGSS2 [10/16/12]

Ok. So I've been working on learning a bit of RGSS2 so I can make my own scripts and edit the ones out there already to suit the game. This goes without saying that it takes away from some of my game dev time.

However, I have brought you two new characters to ponder about! Ceralia and Nigri! (Girl characters brought in for the sole purpose of less penis-touching and to please the one guy who was complaining about there being only one girl character.)

Ceralia Cross:
Ceralia Cross is one of Artephius' students. She makes sure to attend every class and she never fails to have questions for him afterwards. She grew up without her parents, just like he did. Maybe that's why Artephius has always taken a liking to her. That, and that fateful day years ago.

Nigri:
Nigri is the headmaster at the school in Aurali. She makes sure all of her students are learning the basics: the history of Ja'spyr and E'spirion, maths and science. She calls upon Artephius from time to time to do special quests for her. Every time, Artephius requests Ceralia to go with him. And every time, Nigri allows it.

PS: I'm also currently mapping the school. I think you guys will like it. :)

Request

Nearly had a heart attack / Looking for some Scripting help [10/15/12]

While toying around with a resolution script (trying to change it to 640x480) I damn near killed all the progress. Luckily though, I saved the project for another day. :)

Anyway, I need someone to help me with scripts. Mainly, if anything comes up for incompatibility and if scripts need changed like for a Resolution script. If anyone could help, it sure would be appreciated. Just leave a comment below or PM me.

System crash + backup = Windows 8. Fail/win? [10/14/12]

Alright, so my HDD crashed.

"Probably from all the porn you keep on there" said all my friends. Even some of my family.

The real cause? I never shut off my computer. Bad habit, and this is just what I needed to break it. Anyway...

Luckily, I had just backed up everything I needed for the project last night. Except for RPG Maker itself.

I decided, instead of just re-installing Windows 7 on a new HDD, to get Windows 8 and Ubuntu. Windows 8 is running pretty smoothly so far. No problems using RMVX yet.

More screens + Port to VX + Info = Blog [10/13/12]

Alright, so I'm re-making the Aurali maps. Again. I'll probably be using Mack's tiles for the groundwork and Hanzo's tiles for some cliffs/water and Houses.

I've decided to port this backwards in time to RMVX instead of Ace. Why? VX has so many more scripts that will be very useful for me down the road. Also, if I parallax everything, what use is the multiple tilesets? (Which, in all honesty, is the only reason most of us even got Ace. Amirite?)

Anyway, I hope to get the character bios up sometime tomorrow. I'll be updating this page regularly, as well as the topic here.
