Temporary Rest

So, what with trying to make college decisions, working to finish my last 10 weeks of high school, and other various things, I've decided to take a break with all of my creative projects. The reason's very simple: creating has become work.

When I have downtime, I don't want to feel guilty for just relaxing rather than doing creative work. If I want to be creative, I may work on these projects, or may work on something completely random.

Dedication to projects is important, and if I had the time, I'd just motor through and finish these projects, because I don't think they're bad, in fact, the projects I'm working on right now are all very promising. However, in a time when I've got a LOT of pressure on me and a lot of work to do, I don't want to have to deal with the pressures of projects.

So, I may update these projects if I feel like it, but at least until I've finished high school, I'm ONLY going to work when I really want to, so don't necessarily expect anything. Once I've finished high school, I'll take a look at these projects and I may come back to the best of them, but I may also drop some.

See you in ten weeks, or earlier.

Progress Report

This Act is going to be MASSIVE.

Let's just start with the main map. 300x300, filled with houses (I'd estimate about 30-40), each completely mapped. That's the outline so far. And of course, in each house, people, interactive objects, and then a lot more of the same on the outside.

I'm also working on designing a Common Even which will play atmospheric sound effects randomly to give this area a very unique soundtrack behind the Requiem.

So, currently, I'm still working on the main map, which I expect to take at least another week and a half to complete (at best), maybe up to three weeks. If I had even a few more hours every day, it would take so much less time, but as I'm still a student, this has to come after I've done all my homework. Annoying, but necessary.

In my previous blog post, I wrote briefly about how the section of the requiem for this act is the longest. The section for Act 1 was actually very long as well, but I didn't want to make Act 1 quite so large as Act 2 will be, because I wanted to not overwhelm the player at first, and because I kind of ran out of things to do. I didn't pick the best scenario for the opening Act, but I think it works alright for now, and can probably be brushed up a bit to make it better.

So, why'd I write this? Just to explain why this act is taking so long (and why it will continue to take a really long time). I really don't have an estimate for the completion of this act, since it's so very large, but I'll defiantly be doing my best.

Progress on Act 2

After about two weeks of having no idea what the second Act of Mors Terrae would be about, I finally had some inspiration on Sunday. Since then, I've put in a good deal of work on the maps for the second act.

The second act will probably take me quite some time to create, for these reasons:
1. I want to expand the scope of the game, making each act larger.
2. The track which will be used as the backing for Act 2 is the longest in the Requiem, meaning that I need to make more content for this act than any other.
3.I'm using a chip set for this map that I've never used before at all, so I'll need to take a while to get used to its use.

However, I'm working on Act 2, and will be posting pictures from the maps in progress once I get to a good point of completion. I also have made a simple menu to allow for the selection of different Acts so that (at least until the full release) players won't have to replay the same parts every time a new portion comes out.

If you have any issues with download, running or playing the game, PLEASE let me know so that I can rectify them. Unfortunately, I have no access to another PC that I can install software on, so I can't test the game on a different machine from my own. I am aware that the shortcut provided probably doesn't have the correct file path, but if you correct the file path for your computer, (the .exe is the only one inside the file labeled Data), it should work fine. Again, if you find any bugs or have any problems, PLEASE let me know.

The work continues.

An Apology.

Hey.

There are a lot of bugs in the download provided, because trying to get downloads working got confusing. I will probably upload an updated version moderately soon, once I've fixed the bugs for sure.

*sigh*...I hate the getting the game out, because I invariably make some mistakes, leaving out important files, accidentally using old versions of code... And this time I made a lot of mistakes. However, the game is primarily functional, and should still be interesting to play.

If you have ANY issues with game play, let me know NOW so that I can resolve them before I update the download. Thanks, and sorry for giving you something less than stellar.

Act One version 1.0 Complete!

I am excited to announce that I have completed work on the first version of Mors Terrae Act One! I will be adding it as a download within a few days, so feel free to try it out and let me know what you think.

In Act One, you play as Ratizen, the last priest of Li (a wind god). Ratizen has returned to the temple of his god, which he has been absent from for some time, to find that his fellow priests have all lost their faith and are no longer there. As he wanders the ruins, Ratizen confronts questions of faith and fear.

So, since this is the first playable release, I will include some quick tips and tricks. Your controls are standard (directional keys, enter or space for decisions, 0 key on the numberpad for cancel)

1.Not everything, but a great number of things are interactive in Mors Terrae. Check everything, because a lot of things you wouldn't think had significance have some small message.

2.Remember that Mors Terrae is about experience, not winning. So, don't look for a way to win, just immerse yourself. For instance, explore different conversations with the wanderers by choosing different options. Also, by pressing the 1 key, you can see what your character is thinking.

4.This is a 1.0 version, but I may very well add things and fix things, so if you find bugs or find think that I should add something to the game, let me know.

5. Remember that this is a short game and that this release is only about an ninth of it. A single play-through should take about 15 minutes at this point. However, the intention is to make the game complicated enough that multiple play-through's are required to see all of the content in each section. I may not have achieved this, but updates in the future will hopefully fix any lack of things to do that is there.

Thanks, and enjoy (once it comes out).
