Each character of Balmung has a specific and somewhat archetypal personality that actively evolves to represent issues and affairs that are important in learning to live. Each of the three story arcs represents a development phase: The first being a static problematic personality that is introduced, the second arc is a transition where that character grows while making many mistakes in the process of overcoming their flaws, and the third story arc deals with each character emerging as stronger individual while interacting in new ways using their evolved personality traits. The aim here is to give a clear cut transition point where the player knows to look for changes in a character's nature.
Blitz Ymir
Serving as the central character in the Balmung Cycle, Blitz Ymir is one of the more well-rounded and developed characters despite his static nature in the first story arc. Dying due to circumstances unknown to all but himself, he was spirited away by Valkyries to become an einheri, revealing only that in his previous life he died gloriously. Whoever Blitz once was, he is now a dedicated follower, exhibiting many qualities of a strong and good-willed individual. For his merits, Blitz is held in high regard and recognized among thousands of einherjar that serve the Aesir army- quite a feat for a mere human to achieve. Some criticize him for trying too desperately to mold his personality to match his occupation, however establishing and recognizing uniqueness is something which generally gives birth to weaker, less focused einherjar.
Blitz's dedicated nature of all work and no play contrasts to those who are outspoken and carefree. At times being irrationally loyal without thinking for himself, he strongly defends the ideal that every decision and decree of the Aesir is made with the best interests of humanity in mind. Following in such a blind fashion, Blitz is less able to make compromises or understand the motives and feelings of others, which can give the impression that he might be selfish.
Blitz wouldn't be an einheri if he was of no worth as a fighter. It is by no mere coincidence that he wields a sword with deadly efficiency and hitting surprisingly hard, a quality that betrays his external appearance. The perfect soldier, confidant, and servant, is there anything more to Blitz than that of a blind; albeit capable follower? Has he resigned to a life of eternal servitude?
